how to change the color of the little background of the text

Nah not really, took me a while to figure out back in the day. :P
Change your background image to a JPG and it will turn back into a drop shadow on your text. If you just want to change the colour...

Do you see the colored shadow on the icons?

Is there anyway I can get rid of that?

I'd expect it would go away when you make the background a JPG, otherwise I'm not sure.

There are options on the system info menu.
I'm not really sure where it is but I know there are options to change the graphical interface in Windows XP.
