Noobish Net Troubles :(

Well, I'm staying at my dad's house, and want to have a crack at good old Runescape. 512 kb Broadband, Unlimited downloads, perfect right?

Nope. The net holds out for about 10 minutes before dropping out, requiring the computer to be restarted and modem unplugged. From watching the modem lights, its the 'usb' connection light that drops out when the net dies, and I think it might have something to do with having the net connected to the computer through the old usb system, and not usb 2.0.

Am I right? Is this why it drops out? If so, how can I fix it? Just in case, the computers specs are here:

Umm... does your dad has Java Run Enviroment (Java 2)?
It can be missing.

Runescape works fine until the net kills itself. It also happens when on msn, or browsing a few sites at once. After reading my first post, I realise I didn't explain the usb part too well.

The computer, being fairly old, only has two usb ports, and both are usb 1.1. I think the computer simply can't handle the 512kb broadband, and the internet drops out whenever something puts a bit of strain on it (eg. Runescape, browsing a few sites at once etc).

If this is right, how do I change the ports to usb 2.0? Is there some sort of adapter thingy?

Nope, can't change it. You have an old computer, the USB speed stays.

Try waiting until the day after Thanksgiving. You might get a good computer deal.

Well. Did you buy it from a manufactuer? Maybe you want to ask them if you can upgrade your motherboard. Unfortuneatly, you would have to buy them on ebay because no one makes them for P3's
Anyways, either upgrade your motherboard your or just get a new computer.
