Well I bought a new HP DV9308nr notebook/laptop and I was attempting to connect to the internet but I can't due to a problem called DNS. I checked it out but, from what I know currently The DNS can't be found. My Linksys (model WRT54G) router is messed up in away because when I connect my modem into the router inot my comp it says the connection is established but when I test the connection or attempt to get on the internet it says "Connection failed" My notebook and Desktop can't cconnect to the internet through the router. My desktop will work if I connect just my modem into the desktop, but when I attempt to just plug in the modem to my notebook it doesn't work. I am trying to get both my Notebook and desktop to run on the internet at the same time through the router. Also my desktop is running on an Vista Home OS and my Notebook is running on Vista Home Premium. All I ask for is how can I get my connection to work. Thank you for your time.

What operating system does it have and is it Vista? I had the same problem before on my computer, which is just Windows XP. I had to find out what my DNS Servers adress was by finding the Windows IP configuration via ipconfig command, which I can't quite remember how to get. I think it's in a ipconfig folder in your [C:] Drive. This is what you can try to do:
  • Once you find the DNS Servers adress, go to: Control Panel -> Network Connections. Right click on your connection and click properties. Go to the Networking tab and highlight on Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click the properties button. Under the general tab the 'Obtain an IP adress automatically' should stay selected. Change the 'Obtain DNS server adress automatically' to 'Use the following DNS server adresses' and manually type the correct DNS server adress there. Click ok.
  • Try disabling your firewall.
  • Try rebooting your laptop and computer.
  • I'm not sure if this would even fix the DNS problem, but you can sync your router. Unplug the power cord connecting to the router for 45 seconds. Connect it back to the router and unplug the plug going into your surge bar for 30 seconds or so. Plug it back in.

Omg, I have the same problem. Here's how to fix it (I hope it helps you).

- Open your browser and type in "http://192.168.1.1/" on the address bar.
- When the password prompt comes up, leave the "username" part blank and type "admin" in the password field.
- Click the "wireless" tab. Then click the "wireless security" link.
- Find your WPA Shared Key.
- Then write that number down and make sure that your laptop is connecting to your router with that key.
