The Nation States April fools joke this year got me thinking. My nation, categorised by the game as "Democratic Socialists" was jokingly changed to "Hell".

So I was wondering, what sort of political regime would constitute "Hell" for you?

That's a hard question. Aside from the obvious world nations such as China, Iran, and other LDCs in Africa 'hellish' is a rather polarizing adjective.

Anything hellish for me would involve: dictators, sentencing without a trial, wealth redistribution between regions (see Canada NEP and transfer payments), strong progressive taxation, barriers to market entry, corrupt governments, lack of "free" speech, skewed political processes... I could go on but it's really hard to describe.

What would be ideal in my view in terms of past governments...? Stephen Harper here with a majority or the former Alberta provincial government under Ralph Klein or the former Reform party of Canada.

The Worst for me, would probably be a regime that did not give you any of the rights stated in the 1st amendment in the American Constitution

I would say that the worst in my opinion is a government that is hypocritical to it's own people, saying one thing, and doing another, visa versa, or whatever the hell else you can think of! *cough* USA *cough*

I agree with you on all of these points except for progressive taxation.

I believe this is concerning freedom of speech? If so, I totally agree.

Or a government who condemns the actions of another government and then does exactly that. So in short, hypocritical.
