Career choice...

Last year i left school and decided to take a year out to decide which career i wanted to go into since then I've been working on and off..and as the new college term will be beginning in a few months it's time to decide which career i would like to spend the rest of my life doing i have basically narrowed it down to two and would like to see other peoples views on them (*NOTE* Obviously I'm not stupid enough to listen to you lot as it is my life - however i would like to see views to HELP me decide the finale decision is of course down to me so please no "it's your life" because i know;)) The two main careers I've got it down to are:

Webmaster
Computer game designer (yes i know this ones hard to get into - i have been in contact with a few big games developers in England and may even stand chance of possible work exp if i play my cards right so it's not a problem really.)

Both hard careers to get into i think let me know what ya think of those two careers and remember i wont base my decision on this thread so no worries.

Mabye you and I will be game Desingers together! I know if you get a chance to take a class in america UMass and Becker College have a course Designed around video Games!

Webmaster is also a good choice However like construction you need to find your projects and later on maintain them.

Or what you should do is get a major in Game design and a minor in webpage design or vice versa incase one fails.

That's what I'm going to do I'm going to mop up as many computing things i can (There are a couple) then from there make Video Game Design my major so no mater what I work on a computer! Also there will be a job left for me.

I wish it was that easy. I'm English. We don't have those things. The ONLY course I've found related to games and you need to be 18 to pull it off I'm only 16 (17 this year) but i will be doing it when i hit 18. In the mean time i will be doing some ict courses as well as (hopefully) designing and making a .com site and keeping it up and running so i can get at least some experience under my belt. Feel free to add your own career choices as well if you like.

I think differently, webmaster, games, Internet related are very popular :wink:

Therefore, if you really want to stand out of all those rest, you must have something "very" unique.
For my career, unless I have a huge great unique idea, I'd choose something that not many people do, but many people need it.

Thats my direction, but what specific, I have no idea :wink:

In my opinion.. write down each carrier, with its pros and cons and compare them. Find out with career is financially going to be better and also better for your life.. Whether it will fit in witha good schedule and such..

As a game designer, there as many chances to advance, to higher positions and such.. It wont be easy.. But at first you might have to start off with less known companies to get some field experience and get your name out there.. THen make your moves to the real big companies and make the big bucks.

My Dads a pastor, and my 2 older brothers are youth pastors....they say its my destiny that ill be one of the two but i always liked computers alot so i figure ill do something like that. Maybe work for Jagex

Ahem...I am planning on taking some computer courses next year for that stuff, but not now. Now is the time for USING the computer :wink:
