Actually without carbon, none of us would be here :P.

I think that banning carbon-based fuels would be a lot easier than banning carbon-based plants and animals . Just a thought... ;)

Very good article, krazzi. It's always annoyed me to see how little was done ten years ago to combat pollution. Regardless of how little information we had on global warming and such, there is no excuse to simply ignore it until it becomes a worldwide problem. Even now, countries (even those who preach environmental reform) still commit acts of pollution that is simply making the situation worse. I'm not a "tree-hugger" but I worry about the day where parts of the world are submerged and we have to walk around wearing gas masks because we're being sickened by the filth we've created.

:D Slogan? Kill the Carbon. :D Besides the fact that banning carbon-based fuels would be easier than banning carbon-based plants, it is also more fruitful.

Since Carbon-based organisms release their stored Carbon when they die, nothing would be accomplished by a ban on Carbon-based organisms as there would be even more Carbon released in killing the life-forms and such, nothing solved.

You could, however, kill the organisms in a airtight cell but the cell would just break down in years to come, not to mention this method would be expensive, strange, and just plain sick. o.0

Does anyone realize humans require carbon dioxide to live, like for instance if you breath to fast you will be getting to much oxygen, with out carbon dioxide,we wouldn't be having this disscussion.

too much oxygen? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :? :?

We don't NEED carbon dioxide, in fact if we do breathe it in, it's very unhealthy.

The more % oxygen you breathe, the better you are. As in why some people use air tanks when in bad condition. And carbon dioxide doesn't make much of our atmostphere. Nitrogen does :?

I think i should make a new rule. Everyone is throwing conflicting facts, and from now on, I would personally like them to post a link to the source of their...knowledge?

And when I say facts, I dont mean something that everyone thinks is true, I want something that is a constant truth. Say for instance the "It hasnt rained for over 100 days in Arizona" Yes, that's a fact, I live here, I should know. What isnt a fact is something like "Cows contribute to global warming". What document is this based off of? Link please? I would just like for people to see what research says what, and if the source is reliable or fradulent.

Heres your link http://www.ncpa.org/ba/ba256.html

Quote:
Carbon dioxide is not a pollutant. It is tasteless, colorless, nontoxic to humans at concentrations up to 13 times present levels and is essential to life. Plants breathe CO2, and as they grow and reproduce they exhale oxygen, making the earth habitable for humans. Instead of a disaster, the expected doubling of CO2 due to human activities will produce a number of benefits over the next century

WHo
said that was al gore? I hate al gore! President Bush owns joo!

Besides, plants need carbon dioxide no plants=no life
Have you ever seen meatiterians. I think not,you need vegatables to survive, and so do most animals.
eg:No trees=no plant eaters=no carvinores=no us
same with
basically No carbon dioxide=no plants=no plant eaters=no carnivores=no us
same wit oxygen
no oxygen=no humans,animals,or any living,breathing,moving thing.=No carbon Dioxide=no plants

See it is, and i'd post where i got it from but i can't post my biology lesson really. Suffice it to say that as they have 4 stomachs, they produce rather a lot of faeces. Because of this and the amount of gas(primarily methane) that is released when they pass on the stools, cows contribute a hell of a lot to global warming. More so than cars apparently, but thats just speculation an i havnt seen any proof of that.

i may sound like a pessimist, but i don't really care about global warming. my philosophy is that we'll all die sooner or later, and if you die right now, it's pretty much the same. =\

on topic- carbon dioxide is a greenhouse gas, it contributes to global warming. but plants NEED CO2 to survive, meaning that there has to be a BALANCE. unfortunately, mankind and it's industrialisation have tipped the balance and therefore causing excessive CO2 and causing the Ozone layer and things to dissipate. This also contributes to Global Warming and some results include melting of the ice caps, which has large consequences, such as: sea lvl rising (way worse than it sounds), temperature drops over 100 degrees C, and others.

i live on the european mainland about 20km from the coest
in the middle ages my town was a rich harbor town
even the french queen was jealous of of my town
so the french started a war against us
they had more men and better weapons and armor
but we won!

anyway, because of the global warming, my town will become a harbor town again
or i could be under sea level.

now there is global warming but after that there will be another ice age

but in the end the earth will go away anyway
there are many threats in space and i'm not talking about comets.
many of you have heard about black holes i think.
and every starsystem has it's own black hole in it's center.
it is said that in this millenium our starsystem, called the milky-way, will have a collision with another starsystem.
The two black holes will merge with each other and create an active mega black hole.
The two starsystems will all be sucked into the mega black hole.

If this does not happens the earth will be sucked into the sun at the and of it's life.
The sun is now in the middle of it's life.
It will die 4-6 billion years from now.
First the sun will swell and become red.
During this period of time the sun will absorb Mercurius, Venus and also earth.
And finally the sun will explode in a massive supernova wich are always beautiful to see.
The sun could also implode and turn into the size of a pea.
But it will keep it's mass so it will become a little ball of great gravitation.

So I don't care about global warming if you know the dangers that are hidden in space.

Cows really are not gonna make a huge difference, there isnt a population of 7-10billion cows :P

On top of that, theres tons of methane being released into the atmosphere, within the "Bermuda Triangle" are many many areas of vents that constantly release methane into the water as methane bubbles, in the end get to the surface, and tada, methane released into the atmosphere :P

Even if us humans werent on earth, with all the gases being released into the atmosphere like sulfer, methane and more from volcanoes, vents, and such, either way, the earth will always experience warming and cooling trends..

The challenge we have, is surviving it, and keeping the worldwide human population within limits. Earths is pretty big, but more humans = more problems. Not only with global warming. So we must adapt, move to higher grounds, the fact is, no one knows exactly how much ice will melt, how long an ice age will last, and so on. So it will be interesting when it happens, i know i will be saving me, and my familys behinds, moving to higher ground, and in not such a cold area.

But of course, governments will be all worried about money, and politics etc. Some will try to save those not able to save themselves. But hey put it this way, we have time to get prepared for this. The ice caps wont melt in 5 days, or 5 seconds..
