I think one of the issues that the Republican party will have to reconsider if they want to stay relevant in future elections is their efforts to appeal strongly to the "religious right" of the country. The problem for them in this regard is that this is a rapidly shrinking demographic in the US. They staunchly stand by the stances of being anti-abortion and anti-same-sex marriage, but public opinion is not always in their favor on these issues anymore.

The religious right is already voting republican. The biggest problem for republicans is that they completely lost the minority vote.
