I do believe animals deserve not to be tortured or raised in a way that is clearly causing them unnecessary suffering.

However, I do not believe that any animal has an inherent 'right' to life, including humans. We've granted each other that right as we've entered into societies (I won't kill you if you won't kill me). We do this so that we can live relatively safe and comfortable lives; but really, there is nothing particularly special about any life.
