This is my essay for English class. We had to choose an invention/discovery and say why it is so great. You can tell me any mistakes because it's not due yet, I have time to change it.

Out of all the great discoveries out there, many are made but only one can come out on top. I'd say it's THE MAGNET!

There are many stories about how the magnet was first discovered. But yet, the magnet has still revolutionized the world. Without magnets, you wouldn't be able to leave a memo on your fridge, record your voice with a microphone (yep, microphones use magnets), play/record cassette tapes, and many other things which will be explained later. The computer you are using right now uses magnets for various things too! Electric car engines depend on...Magnets! What else? You don't have to like DragonForce or even rock music to know this but if magnets were never discovered, DragonForce would basically become a country band! Herman Li, Sam Totman, Frederic Leclerq and Vadim Pruzhanov wouldn't have all these wires hanging out from their instruments. (electronic musical instruments use magnets and various 'gizmos' to create the sounds you hear on your favorite CD). All the singers out there would be singing into homemade loudspeakers made from rolled up cardboard! (since they need magnets for their microphones!) You'll probably forget alot of things if you don't have magnets to hang stuff on your fridge. Ever watched discovery channel shows where archeologists wave these big metal detectors over the ground to search for treasure? Their metal detectors wouldn't work at all without magnets. A magnet inside the metal detector sences the metal object hidden underground and sends a signal to the sound system to make the sound that something has been detected. Have a home alarm system? The burglars would all be breaking into your house and stealing all those precious valuables if there were no magnets. Various sensor systems (including home alarms) use magnets to detect when something is moving/has been moved. There are many other uses for magnets but it will take me several pages to explain and list them all. So without further ado...Praise the magnet!

Do not post about your favorite discoveries and why they are. This causes spam and flaming. ONLY your opinion on my thought of the discovery of magnetics.

I was getting ready to say that magnets aren't an invention there :P

Yeah, you missed out the most obvious thing about magnets. The Earth, and how the compass has saved so many explorers lives just by guiding them the right way.

I agree with you. Usually an essay has a format usually including these three things. Intro, Body, Conclusion. Learned that from my 5th grade teacher =P. But I do understand that this was only a rough copy.

i'm glad somebody shares my writing style. the entire essay isn't serious at all with light humor in it. i don't know how i get by with A's every semester in Literature.

If this is going to be turned in, I don't think this is acceptable.
I'm no expert at writing, in fact, I do not enjoy writing essay; however, your essay needs to be broken down into paragraph. You need a good thesis in your introduction, and some very good body sentences to support the thesis. Then you basically restate the thesis in your conclusion. This is the most basic thing in an essay.

I think this is something pretty obvious that your teachers should've taught you, but I don't blame you. I've had teachers before who just don't teach you this stuff.
