Quote:
Sorry, due to a bug in the forum allowing someone to continually hack things we have decided to shut down the forum until we can get it upgraded to IPB 2.1.6.

The forum will probably be down for at least 2 days if not longer.

Sorry for this inconvenience.

If your an advanced member we will work with you on regaining your membership and time, so please do not fret. If you are on a monthly subscription, please go cancel it and then resign up here once the new forum is open. The instance in Tip.it is different. Basically what happened with tip.it is a corrupt admin on tip.it downloaded the database, decrypted the passes of some Jagex staff accounts and, since they used the same pass on the fansite as on rs, was able to get on their accounts.

I completely trust our administration however, as a precaution, you should never use the same pass on here or any other fansite that you use on rs.

Yep as long as you use a different password you will be completely safe.

I would think that would be obvious that people would inherently make there rsn pass unique...but I guess not...I change mine every several months. Just a precautionary measure. :?

Probably not safe, still. It just happens that tip.it and rhq are more popular. People are more likely to try and hack them because of this.

Thats common sense. The password you use on RS should be unique. It is for me. I use a few passwords, but the one i have on RS is unique; not used anywhere else.

Next will be runscapecommunity.com they are probably going in order of size and importance...tip.it, then rhq..., I wouldn't be surprised if another major rsn forum got hacked in the coming weeks.
