selling items for real life cash is not exclusive to RS. it happens to other online games as well. these transactions doesn't only involve cash. it goes deeper than that.

but why do these dealings happen in the first place? let me play the devil's advocate.

i'm a new player to the game. i have a friend who got a set of all the phats, he brags about it and i want one, too. if it will take me a year to get the money playing 10 hours a day, it is more economical to have it now and pay for it with real money rather than spend the same amount over a year. so i end up a winner. then i don't have to play that much.

yeah plain laziness. but i want to do other things in real life. i'll take the easy way.

even paying for membership explicitly says it should be within the family only and yet someone with a credit card can pay for anybody. jagex really doesn't care as long as they get paid.

they got player mods and yet they must count on honest players to report hanky pankies. are these mods doing their jobs?

iit is not illegal as long as you're not caught. geez...it is sad but true.

Its funny I saw this post today. Last night my roommate was looking on ebay and I ask her to type in runescape and see what came up. We found a lvl 113 account being sold for $2,000!!!!!!! I think it is sooooo stupid to pay that much money for a game.

And yes I am a member but thats not quite the same thing. I just did the math and $2000 is worth 33 years of members. What are people thinking? :?:

This is just crazy; insane I tell you!

But this isn't uncommon, on many other games, people sell items for money, for example, Diablo II: Lord of Destruction.

A person was selling a super rare plate called "Tyreal's Might" for $450.00. And he sold out of those plates. Just crazy...

Lol - good point.

Paying for the ability to play a game is different than paying for pixelated objects within a game. Not only is it illegel, but it's stupid.
