Melee Guide
Hello and welcome to my Melee guide, within this guide you shall find information taking you from levels 3 all the way to 100 and above! Some of this guide may be members only, but i will try to include a F2P alternative.
Getting Started
Hello young adventurer, and welcome to the world of Runescape! In Runescape you will encounter many a challenge, ranging from killing your first bear, to fighting off black dragons.
Once you have talked to Runescape's Greatest Swordsman, Vannaka, You are ready to fight off your first enemy! Walk into the cage, and attack the rat which has a yellow arrow over it and watch in awe as battle commences. Remember, keep an eye on your Hitpoints Level, which can be located by clicking the bar chart. Eat the food you cooked earlier if you need too!
Welcome One, Welcome All
Now you have completed Tutorial Island, you are now placed on the Mainland. You wake up in a mysterious place, also known as Lumbridge. There are generally many people who have just started here, along with the people who have died from the Wilderness. You find yourself equipped with your wooden shield and your bronze sword, and all the basic things needed. If you head west of Lumbridge, through the forests and the hoards of smelly green goblins (Take care, run past the Jail Guards, and avoid the dark mages) you shall find yourself at the small bustling town of Draynor! Here there is a bank, where you can bank everything you do not need. Only bring your combat equipment, and maybe your axe and your tinderbox.
Head back west to Lumbridge, and talk to the man who looks like a shepard. He will teach you general things about Runescape. After this, proceed over the bridge where you should find some great training spots for you! Because you are not very strong right now, the best place to start would be the chickens, they can be found north east of the Cows and Goblins, within their pen. Here you can start your training, and remember to pick up both all the drops, excluding eggs, as these can be very useful to you.
After you have killed a few chickens, bury the bones, after all "Bones are for Burying!". This gives experience to Prayer, which in turn gives you special powers increasing your melee stats and eventually protecting you against magic, ranged attacks and even melee attacks! Take your chickens, and use them either with the fireplace inside the house, or find a tree to cut down and start a fire. You will most likely burn most of the chickens, however used the ones you succesfully cooked for when you start to get hurt.
I reccomend doing this till around level 15.
Moving On
Now you have grown a little, take the feathers you have gathered and try to sell them to fellow players for 10gp each. This will make you a lot of money, with which you can buy armor and weapons with! I reccomend buying or making a steel scimitar from either Al Kharid's Scimitar shop, or a player. If you have enough, you can buy plate armor and long swords from Varrock, Chain armor and Shields from Falador, Platelegs from Al Kharid and Helmets from the Barbarian Village. All of the previously mentioned places can be found on the map at the top of your screen.
I would suggest doing Princess Ali Rescue, to enable you to get free passage through the toll gate into Al Kharid, this will help you with your next money making scheme.
Ok, now you have done that, training at the cows should be a lot more easy! If you fight the cows, remember to keep burying the bones and cooking some meat, aswell as picking up the cowhides. When you have a full inventory of hides, take them through the toll gate and bank them at Al Kharid. Players buy cowhides for around 200gp each, which is a vast improvement on feathers.
I reccommend you train here till Level 25-30. You can always continue here after this of course, because this is probably the best method to make money on F2P worlds.
Getting Stronger
Now you are becoming stronger, Cows and Chickens should no longer be much of a worry to
you. I would reccommend raising your fishing level to supply a constant level of food, as training from now on will possibly require it. Salmon and Trout would be good for now.
Now you have advanced more, i would think Black armor or Mithril would be good for you. Sell your hides to a player, and buy the armor from either players or the shops mentioned above.
Now you can go to train at skeletons within Varrock Sewers. There are plenty of these around, or if you prefer something else, there are also Zombies and Ghosts. Making money from training here is quite difficult, but the training isn't so bad.
Training here to around 35-40 would probably be quite appropriate.
Advancing
Now you are tough and strong, You can no longer be seen in Black armor! Grab yourself some Adamantite or Mithril! You can make your money from the selling of hides, mentioned above.
If you take a walk to the Barbarian Village and turn north, you will find yourself at Edgeville.
Take care and do not walk to far north, or else you may stumble into the Wilderness, where players can kill you and steal your armor from you.
You should see a big red exclamation mark, around here there is a trap door. Proceed down and follow the dungeon around until you see Zombies, around here should be a Brass Key, this gives easier access to the Dungeon, as the door unlocked by this key is directly above the giants and close to Varrock. Now you can kill the giants, and either bury the bones, or bank them and sell them for 300gp each! The drops you get can also be worth some money to the general store. Take care whilst training here, and keep your eye out for your current Hitpoints.
Training here can continue up to and past level 60. However at level 60 better things become available.
Become A Champion
By now i would hope you have done enough quests for you to enter the Champions Guild, as this is the place you can buy Rune armor from! If you are level 60, i reccomend that you start the quest "Dragon Slayer". This quest is very challending and will require extremely good food, either swordfish or lobsters. Once the quest is complete, you can now purchase and wear a Rune Platebody! Rune is the best defence in F2P, and 3rd best in P2P.
Now you look like a true warrior, in your rune, and the only place a true warrior should be training is the Moss Giants! Moss Giants can be found in Varrock Sewers, past the ghosts, through the web and past the (not so) deadly red spiders. There are 2 spots which contain Moss Giants, use the one that is least crowded.
Only bring tuna, lobsters or swordfish for training here.
I would stop training here at 65, and become a member, or if you do not wish to become a member, continue here until you reach your desired level.
Pay To Play
Welcome to Members World! Members worlds are usually a lot less crowded, have much more things to do, armor to wear, weapons to weild etc. Aswell as having much better training spots.
Now you are in P2P worlds, get 60 attack if you do not already possess it. Then a must is to do the quest "Lost City". This enables you to weild some of the most powerful weapons in the game, the Dragon Long Sword and the Dragon Dagger.
Train at the Moss Giants until level 70, you may wonder why become a Member at 65? Remember, Members have many more training places, so the older F2P spots will be less crowded, along with the stronger weapons.
Once you reach level 70, I started training at lesser demons on Karamja. Most member worlds will be empty here, and a great tactic for training here is to bring a Lobster pot, a tiderbox and hatchet. Go to the docks, where you can fish your lobsters, cut a tree and light a fire to cook them. This means you can stay on the island with no real need to leave, unless you feel like banking your drops.
I reccomend training here until level 75.
Lighthouse
Now you are level 75, You should do the Lighthouse Quest. This enables a great training spot where Daggonaths dwell. This is a multi combat area, so many Daggonaths will be attacking you at the same time. This is good for lazy people, as you no longer have to do any clicking apart from eating!
Take lobsters, and camelot teleports for here.
This is probably either the second or first best training in the game, in my opinion, training could continue to level 100 and above here.
A Legend Is Born
Now it is time to challenge yourself, and do the Infamous Legends quest. Once you have finished the long stuggle, in the basement of the guild you can find Shadow Warriors, which are equally as good training as Daggonaths, but a bank is close by and they have good drops. One of the drops is a Dragon Left Half, you can either sell this for around 4 mil, or keep and buy the right half for a Dragon Square Shield.
Training can continue until whenever you feel the urge to stop.
The Desert
I discovered this training spot whilst doing the quest "Desert Treasure". This is the best training spot in the game, with Bandits ALWAYS auto attacking you if you wear anything releated to Zamorack or Saradomin. Stay out of the pub at all costs, as there are many tougher bandits in there.
I find that the best armor to use here is Guthan, which you can buy or acquire from the barrows. However this is extremely rare. Wearing Guthan, you can basically sit here all day without the need to use any food, as the Special cures you. However keep an eye out for random events, and if your training Strength or Attack, make sure you swicth to the spear once your health starts getting low.
Member Money Making
Members have the easiest money making methods. One of the favourite seems to be flax picking and spinning into bowstrings. These can be found south of Seer's village at the Flax Fields, and spun at the house with the Seer in it, on the second floor. Flax will sell for 100gp each, and bowstrings 150gp. However these can be picked and spun extremely fast.
Another way could be through Runecrafting. Once you get to the right level to be able to 5x craft Air Runes, you can buy Rune Essence for 20-40gp a piece, and make them into 5
air runes, which will sell for 20 each. Once you reach 44 Runecrafting, Nature Runes will sell for 300gp each, sell your essence to the store and buy back, before walking back to the altar.
