ITEM DUPLICATING:

they tlel you to drop your items then press alt+f4 and pick it back up really quick, but in fact alt f4 is a hot key that closes out the window and ur items become the other persons

Theres the ammy enchanting too. You give a person an ammy to enchant and they make off with it! My new motto, DIYS (Do it yourself)!

i know quite a few scams.

Auction scam

First off a person will say free santa or something like that. Then he will get a crowd around him. He would then say the person who gives me the best stuff gets my santa. He would accept small trades of something worthless and then return them. When the people get deperate over the item, they would go and give more valuable stuff like rune items.

This scame is kind of rare but it still happens.

ITEM SWAP

person A: selling 5000 yew logs for 100 gp ea
person B thinks: WOW thats a good deal
person A and person B trade
Person A puts up 5000 yew logs and asks person B to hurry as they have to go.
person B puts up the money, Person A declines making it look like an accident
They trade again, person B puts up the money, person A puts up a DIFFERENT type of log
person B accepts without checking the final screen
person A logs out

This often occurs with logs, noted armor, and weapons and is nota rare scam.

I also have a list of items that people say are rare but really aren't at all

4-dose potions, charcoal, machette, crushed gemstone, spinach roll, elemental shields, paramaya inn ticket, gnome ball, petes candlestick, toy horses, unfermented wine, Bad wine, shantay disclaimer, half pizas, hollow reed, colored gloves, gold nuggets, black items, the shield of arrav (both halves), eye patches, lit arows, black staffs, shade robes, sliced bananas, SGG- short green guy (gnome drink), snelms, bark, cleaning cloth, palm leaves, flametaer hammers, grog, karamja rum, vodka.

those are all the items i can think of but if anyone else knows of any write them down.

Another one that I didn't see mentioned was the "free smithing" or "free crafting" offers, in which you offer ore or bars thinking you will get an item returned after they make it, but the person just logs off.

The only problem with people being afraid of scams like the gem cutting and ammy enchanting and free smithing/crafting is that anyone who is legitimately trying to offer this service has a hard time.

And I am a person who will generally offer free gem cutting or free smithing. When it comes to gem cutting, I for some reason almost always have 1 of each cut gem in my bank, and I'll just trade cut for uncut.

When it comes to smithing, usually I will not accept more than 5 bars at a time (only accept enough bars for 1 item they want at a time, etc), then trade that smithed item for more bars if they want more smithing.

One day, however, when offering some smithing, I was either scammed in a very interesting method, or I legitimately messed up. Either way, the anvil in Varrock was kind of crowded, but a guy asked me if I could smith some iron for him. I said sure. Traded with him, but he canceled. Another guy traded me an iron bar, and I made an iron sword like he wanted. Traded it to him. I finished my smithing then walked off. All of the sudden, one of the two guys messaged me saying "Where's my iron sword?" I apologized to him (not wanting to get reported for scamming) and offered him a steel sword. He of course accept (and a steel sword is like nothing to me, especially compared to the threat of being accused of scamming), but I'm still not sure whether I just gave the sword to the wrong person, or he really was scamming me. Either way, that's the closest thing that I've come to getting scammed since losing 20 steel bars a very, very long time ago (when 20 steel bars was like a pot of gold to me).
