Interesting, but false.

They have forgotten the fact that properties that are landed on MUST be purchased, whether directly or by auction. Let me show you the actual turn out of that "theoretical" game.

Quote:
Player 1, Turn 1:

Roll: 6-6, Lands on: Electric Company
Action: Doesn't buy, it goes to auction and Player 2 buys it for $1, Doubles therefore roll again

Roll: 6-6, Lands on: Illinois Avenue
Action: Doesn't buy, it goes to auction and Player 2 buys it for $1, Doubles therefore roll again

Roll: 4-5, Lands on: Community Chest "Bank error in your favor, Collect $200"
Action: Collects $200 (now has $1700)

Player 2, Turn 1:

Roll: 2-2, Lands on: Income Tax
Action: Pay $200 (now has $1298), Doubles therefore rolls again

Roll: 5-6, Lands on: Pennsylvania Rail Road
Action: Player 2 has learned Player 1 doesn't want properties, so he puts it to auction and then buys it for $1.

Player 1, Turn 2:

Roll: 2-2, Lands on: Park Place
Action: Purchase ($350, now has $1350), Doubles therefore rolls again

Roll: 1-1, Lands on: Boardwalk
Action: Purchase ($400, now has $950), Doubles therefore rolls again

Roll: 3-1, Lands on Baltic Avenue
Action: Collect $200 for passing GO (now has $1150), Purchase 3 houses for Boardwalk, 2 for Park Place ($1000, now has $150), Doesn't buy Baltic Avenue, it goes to auction and Player 2 buys it for $1

Player 2, Turn 2:

Roll: 3-4, Lands on: Chance, "Advance to Boardwalk"
Action: Advance to Boardwalk, Rent is $1400, only has $1296 so he mortgages The Electric Company($75, $1371), and Baltic Avenue($30, $1401), pays rent and has $1 left over, plus Illinois Avenue and Pennsylvania Railroad.

GAME OVER
GAME CONTINUES

Player 1, Turn 3:
Purchases 1 house for Board Walk, 2 houses for Park Place($600, $950), Purchases a Hotel for each($400, $450)
Rolls 2-2: Lands on Chance: "Make General Repairs" Pay $100 per Hotel($200, $250), Doubles therefore rolls again

Rolls 5-5: Lands on Community Chest: "Assessed for Street Repairs" Pay $115 per Hotel($230, $20), Doubles therefore rolls again

Rolls 2-3: Lands on Chance: "Elected Chairman" Pay each player $50, can't so must sell a hotel to get $100($20, $120) and then pay the bill($50, $70).

Even without Player 1 getting smashed the next turn, his plan failed miserably.

If you're going to play Monopoly, play by the rules and expect to spend a good long time doing it. Monopoly was designed to be played over a long time. That's where long term strategy comes in. Anyone saying Monopoly is a waste of time has never really played the game. If anything, it is a great teaching tool.

Oh, BTW, there is NO way to do those turns in 21 seconds.

then player 1 in theory could buy the land for 2 bucks instead of 1.

then player 2 in theory could buy the land for 3 bucks instead of 2.

Until the bid price reaches the normal price it is still worth bidding. Thus, player 2 would continue to bid until he either thought it was high enough to hurt player 1 or until it reached the printed price.

Either way you slice it, this plan would be ruined by any half intelligent player. While it may look good in theory, that's all it is. Good looks and theory. Neither of which will win for you in monopoly OR the real world.

I'm not trying to fight with you, Trekkie. I'm just pointing out that his perfect strategy is quite flawed.

i do believe that almost every who has played monopoly has had some sort of customized ruling. who knows. i remember any tax that you pay went to free parking.

Yea, custom rules are part of the game. We usually have any money that normally goes to the bank (taxes, building repairs, etc) go to free parking.

That's one of the things that makes the game take hours and hours. If you play with the proper rules of the game, it's supposed to be a short game. (Although, not 21 seconds short). No one ever wants to play the real rules though.
