laptop screen black

my mom's laptop screen won't display.
the laptop turns on fine but the screen stays black.
any ideas on how to get it to work?

I've restarted it a billion times.

well the same thing happened to me, turned out the backlight was broken. i sent it back to the store that i got it and they fixed it to free. i suggest you try the same, maybe call the business you bought it from.

Connect a monitor to the VGA/DVI port and see if that works. If it does then the screen is shot.

From there you can call your manufacturer if you still have warranty.
