Was just browsing the site, wondering what happened to Stellar Dawn, and I stumbled upon the forum. It was quite active for a beta promised in 2011. In fact, there were many 2012 posts. Then I remembered Addiv. ****, a longer wait for him to use his guaranteed invite, I feel bad.

Inside the dev forum, there was a new post that caught my attention. Lucky me, it was written earlier today!

Now I'm gonna go check FunOrb, in case something happened there. :O

Another nail in Jagexs coffin. :-({|=

Two MMO's they've tried to create now and both failed. Unable to recreate what they had with RS and frankly going by the updates they've given RS they've clearly no idea anymore what made that a good game. Lets see how the transformers game fairs shall we?

I agree. I don't understand what the struggles they are having with both of the failed MMO's they have been trying to make, but something is obviously wrong...

Milking the Runescape Cow for all it's worth perhaps?

What if they were never making it, but being able to claim to be losing millions of pounds each year was good for convincing investors that they were making far more than a few million a year with runescape?

I never thought beta would take this long. It was really sad when the one year anniversary of the contest came and went.

Jagex needs to just stick to Runescape its what they're known for and what they do best. (or used to do best)

...and what they make the most money off of.

i mean really, they have no incentive to create a new RPG if what they have now is still popular and makes them money. It is poor show on their part to start development of a game and not follow through even with all the money that went into it...not to mention the hype, too.

Most MMO's fail anyway, even with a brand name like Jagex behind it.
I don't see the point, why waste time and money onto other projects, I would only focus on the 1, that's got you where you are today.

Nothing lasts forever. RS growth has slowed down. They have shareholders now and they expect progress. :]

If they stand still and just work on RS they'll die. I mean there going to die anyway cause they've lost all there talent but still.

Ahh this makes me mad, but it certainly wasn't a shock move. But honestly, if after ~12 years Jagex has still got only one 'hit' game on their belt I can't imagine their shareholders would be too hopeful for the future. In the 12 years after Blizzard was founded they went from The Lost Vikings and Rock 'n Roll Racing to create the Warcraft, Starcraft and Diablo franchises. Now while Jagex's product(s) aren't that similar to Blizzard's (i.e. Jagex is yet to make offline games - well, except for Bouncedown), you have to wonder what kind of progress Jagex is making as a company, if the only game that has made any sort of impact was created over a decade ago, by individuals who have since left the company? If I was a shareholder I'd be asking whether the current pattern of; 1. Announce new game, 2. Start working on new game, 3.a Cancel game after spending millions or 3.b Release game and pretend it never existed; is likely to apply to the Transformers game also. Shame about Stellar Dawn though; I could have imagined that as being the next big one for them :/

Looking back, I could see this coming. I'd visit the SD site occasionally to see what the latest rumors were and you could see a steady decline in participation from the Jagex team. They didn't even bother to fix issues with the website after a while.

Selling my guaranteed invite for one squeal spin. That's about all it's worth now.

Contacting Jagex for anything other than account and financial matters is impossible through their website. The SD forums are so dead that I doubt a request would be seen there. I sent a tweet to @OfficalJagex about this but I'm not holding my breath.

When it comes down to it, even though it'd be nice to get a contest reward, I'd rather just get the beta invite to the finished game.
