There's an option on Steam where you can add games to your library so when you play them it shows up to your friends and appears in your library so you can access it from Steam if you want to. Is there any other benefits or disadvantages to doing this for your non-Steam games besides the aforementioned reasons? Does anyone who uses Steam here do that with their non-Steam games?

The benefit is that I can chat with friends in-game using the overlay (it usually works) and so friends can see what I'm playing at the moment. The possible downside is a slight performance hit and some games won't work with steam.

For example the Cod 4 punkbuster will kick you if you have the steam overlay on.

Is that CoD 4 from Steam or non-Steam? Cause that hasn't happened to me yet...unless Punkbuster is off.

You also get access to the screenshot + screenshot sharing service. Definitely a plus if you like to show off some of the gaming you do.
