A friend recently showed me a game called Minecraft. It's a sandbox construction game. It's still in Alpha so the graphics aren't great. Still pretty fun though :)

Y'all should try it
I have a multiplayer survival server I'm hosting as well, PM me if interested ;)

So what, is this like Garry's mod or completely different? Never sure on these sandbox types of games. People keep telling me to try out Garry's mod sometimes, but I fear once I get it, I'll try it once or twice and be done with it. :|

The objective of the game is literally on the name, "Minecraft" :P . You Mine deeper and deeper into dark mines with creeps everywhere and you have to fight for your ore.
Only then you may Craft the objects of your dreams.

Just to clarify this a bit. There are two separate modes with this game.

There is the free one called creativity, it was the first version and was mainly a proof of concept. You could describe it as a giant building blocks game.
Then there is survival/infdev/whateverthehelltheydecidedtocallitnow mode that costs roughly 12-13 USD. It is a survival type thing where you mine, chop trees and build things while avoiding dangerous creatures. The price of the survival mode will double once the game is out of alpha though.

It is worth it right now IMO. Notch(The developer) has added multi-player support for survival mode and is in the middle of ironing out the bugs and making adjustments/additions as needed.
So I would recommend this game to anyone just to try it out, mainly because it would appeal to many types of gamers and not a specific group like most other rogue-like games.

You forgot to mention the game is completely different every time you play it. The world has no outer bounds, besides the realistic height and depth limits (can't have people digging to the mantle or building to space). In theory, the game could have more surface area than the Earth itself. Not sure if anyone has ever tested that before. :o

The game is worth the €9.99, which you pay through Paypal. Best $13 I ever spent, EVER.

I am definitely interested in that multiplayer server, Earth.

EDIT: Lol, I just built a successful mine cart track to a base I haven't even built yet.

LOVE Minecraft. Got it recently when the servers went back online.. Was very lucky to get in when I did.

Anyway, here's my world so far. http://imgur.com/51CHx.jpg . Bit large, so I'd rather not embed.

@Levy the program I've found that has a nice GUI interface and works well is called Cart5.

Also, it's 9.95 euro now, but will be 19.95 once Beta is announced... Considering Alpha has been out for a good deal of time now, the 'Coming Soon' sounds like it may indeed be coming much sooner than some of us expect.

In regards to map size, correct about height/depth, but with the surface area, it's able to go 4096 square kilometers, or ~8x the surface area of the Earth. So yea, I don't think it's currently possible or feasible to alone navigate the entire map. I'm just happy walking for a day away from my main HQ to find something new.. And considering the map I showed above, I don't think anything was more than .5 days travel from my spawn/mainHQ.
