Ill be there tonight! Played HL2:DM for the first time the other day. I kept dying by people throwing furniture at me with the gravity hook gun or whatever its called. But fun game nontheless.

That will happen to you alot tonight most likely unless your a natural at these kinds of games. Hope you don't mind people using crossbows and rockets instead though ;)

I should be able to make it. Hate missing these events even though I die alot XD

I know it can't fully compare to hosting your own server but you don't run a server for TF2, you just use a random one.

Actually, we're back to using our own now. It just wasn't working out before, but maybe it was a dry spell. Either way, all of our gaming options are hosted here on Rsbandb, courtesy of Mike and Shane.

Also, according to the 'Super Moderator' thing, you've gotta pay for that. Not only does it cost money, it's a monthly or weekly fee. Not something we'd want to do, considering as Mike said, what we've got isn't adding additional fees to the hosting plan.

I added 14 new maps to the hl2 server for this week to choose from. Some of them are quite well made. Others I'm not so sure about how well they will play, but they will be removed if they suck.

I was asked by JRD for a download pack of the maps. Rather than making a large zip file of them, I've just turned on directory indexing for our "fastdownload" URL the server uses when you are missing a map. Those of you who have slow downloads can download the maps you don't have before events when hl2 is chosen.

http://209.160.21.177/hl2dm/maps/

It would be a lot faster to download the compressed bz2 versions of them (that's what your computer downloads when you are missing a map) and then unzip them with a program like 7zip and put in your hl2 maps folder.

Since next weeks event is TF2, the only custom map we have right now is the castle wars one which can be downloaded here if you want, or if your download is fast, it will download automatically when you join the server and we are playing it.

Edit: Paul has some more he'll post

Great idea, Jrd. Although, what I might suggest, Mike, is that once people are done downloading that, make separate directories for new maps you've added. For example, then we play next week, any maps you added would go under it's own directory. That way, instead of having to look through a bigger list, we can just go to the newly added maps and find them quick and easy. Just a suggestion.

Oh, and if anyone has trouble downloading those maps and finding where to put them, here are some step to follow (also note that the bsp and bsp.bz2 are the same thing, the bz2 is just a zip of the bsp map):

1)Make sure you know where your downloads are going. I just put them on my desktop, so just make sure you know where the maps go.
2)Once you've downloaded the maps, go to this file path: My Computer>>>C: Drive>>>Program Files>>>Steam>>>SteamApps>>>(Account Name)>>>half-life 2 deathmatch>>>hl2mp>>>maps.
3)Once you reach Maps, take the maps you downloaded and put them in this folder, not in any of the folders within the Maps folder.
4)You are finished. If you want to get the TF2 map, after your (Account Name) goto team fortress 2>>>tf>>>maps and put castlewars in your maps folder.
5)Now you are finished. When you go to play the games, the maps will already be downloaded and will come up faster to play on. Game on!

Great event yesterday. As always, HL2 is loads of fun to play...when I'm not dying that is. -_-

Links for the Birthday TF2 maps will be in the first post momentarily. Remember - you can still get the maps by just showing up to the server, but if your connection is incredibly slow, it might be worthwhile to follow our instructions and download these ahead of time.

Post subject:  Re: PC Gaming (TF2 - August 9th) [Run By: Pfkninenines]

Thanks Mike, That is actually a much better idea than having a big zip file to download.

Thanks Duke, The problem with your suggestion is that it would take more of Mike's time and be more of a strain on the server because it can probably only host games from this directory so your suggestion would require two copies of the map to be on the server.(So that new maps would be in a new directory)

But it is not very hard to look at your map folder and compare which maps you do and don't have.

Mike, Can you enable the "Last modified" field to show up? That would allow those people that don't want to compare their maps to the list to be able to look at the modified date, at least if the files were quote "modified" when you upload them.

Most of the modified dates for the files are from years ago whenever the map was made, and the filesystem we use doesn't store a file creation date like windows does. I'll just post links to the specific new map files as they are added.

Just a note for those without a Steam game that qualifies for the SDK, QuakeCon sales are on now.. So likely there will be some game for sale that'll work with the SDK. Not a guarantee, just something to be aware of.

Was watching WipeOut during the event this week which is why I missed it, but I should be there next week, unless I am away or I forget about it again. :P Voted for CSS:GG so I can try it out on my Mac for the first time. :)

Sorry I missed the event yesterday. Was gaming other places. -_-

Anyways, yes...PLEASE VOTE FOR CSS. I want to dominate you all again...I mean...have fun (while dominating all of you). xD

But seriously, we should play either CSS or Goldeneye cause I know we haven't played either in quite a while if memory serves. I missed the only Goldeneye event this year and I feel bad about it still. :(
