Okay, so recently I just got xbox live set up. I had a fun day playing Halo 3, but out of nowhere, the screen said the "unable to read disc" thing. So I took it out, washed it, and finally it works again. About an hour or so later it happened again, so I washed it, put it in and it worked again. Way later, the same thing happened again only this time the washing didn't work. I took it out to find a perfectly-circular scratch around the center hole of the disc. Was this my 360's fault? Anyways, I searched for ways to remove scratches and found that rubbing toothpaste and waiting 3-5 minutes works. Well, I tried it and... it didn't. I don't really know any other ways. Please help! That was a $60 game and I don't want to buy ANOTHER one!!

XD

Yeah i think you probably damaged it yourself with those experiments. I'm fairly sure you can send it away to Microsoft to fix, check xbox.com for anything on that.

A lot of Halo 3 discs got shipped scratched due to the casing, that might be what caused it.

I didn't even watch Marking's video, but the title is enough for me not to do it. The toothpaste method isn't reliable either, so you shouldn't have done that. Even disc buffers aren't safe, they either completely fix your disc or completely destroy it. And there's definitely no way Bungie or Microsoft is gonna send you a new disc because it's scratched.

So if's its broken indefinitely, you might as well try a disc buffer or see if Gamespot/EB will buff it for you (they might charge a small fee) and then try it again. If it doesn't work after that, go buy a new one.

Out of experience, I know exactly what you're talking about. That perfectly circular scratch is indeed from the Xbox 360. It happens if your Xbox 360 is physically moved while a disk is being played. It happened to me with Gears of War.

There's no way to fix it, you have to go out and buy a new disk. It *really* sucks.

Did you move your 360 while the game was in? It will scratch even if you're on the dashboard.

Also, don't put your 360 on any kind of wobbly surface, because that can most likely cause it to scratch like that.

Sorry, bro. :(

Check if you qualify, I don't see why you wouldn't.

On the same page there is this link that confirms that Halo 3 is a disc they will replace. You can download and print the form you will need here. Looks like this only costs 20 USD instead of the full purchase price.
