Quote:
Nintendo's DS Lite redesign has proved a tremendous success, regularly topping hardware sales charts around the world since it was first released in Japan in March 2006. Despite the system's success, Pacific Crest Securities analyst Evan Wilson believes Nintendo has already finished work on its successor.

"Our contacts indicate that a refreshed DS is complete," Wilson said today in his holiday preview investor's note. "It is thinner (it has no GBA port), has on-board storage, and larger screens. However, we do not expect a revamped Wii or DS until sales begin to tail off in all three major geographies." As of press time, a Nintendo of America representative had not responded to GameSpot's request for comment.

Another one... O_o

Somehow I don't think this baby's going to be as popular, even if the DS is dominating the handheld market right now. Even though I know I'll be looking into getting a new one (depending on whether it looks good or not, l0l) I doubt a lot of the new gamers who've just gotten into all this brain training/nintendogs crap which has easily given the DS it's success will be hardcore enough to get another DS just for looks.

Comments?

I've been waiting for a new DS to come out for so long.

I realised how lonely my Gameboy Advance was getting now that everyone had a DS, but I didn't feel like getting one now since it had been half a year since the DS Lite and I just knew a new model would be coming out soon.

As for the idea of no GBA port, that phails :(

I suppose that'd be a problem with the pokemon games in particular, in which you can unlock hidden extras by having a GBA Pokemon Cart in the DS as the same time as you're playing Diamond/Pearl, along with not being able to upload your old pokemon into the new game through Pal Park.

Though,

I have never, EVER understood the point of bringing out new models. How many versions of the GBA did they make again? 3?

I think it's stupid to go out and buy a new version cause it's smaller or a different colour when you've already got a working one. I don't get why people do it.

Reaaaaaalllllly don't see the point of it myself, i certainly wont bother looking at one.

That explains it. I'm still using a phone from 3-4 years ago. It's small, it works it'll do for me.

I think that this will be a Micro type thing; a complete phailure. Really, my ideal DS would be this-

Gameboy port at the top (can play regular gameboy games)
Three DS game slots at the bottom (this would be nice)
Power/volume/stylus inside the DS (stylus wouldn't come out all the time)
Ability to link with Gameboy games (is it's possible)
An autosleep feature with Gameboy games (if it's possible)

Yeah, that'd be awesome. But really, I don't think the new DS will be a success. We don't need another DS. The DS and DS Lite were practically the same.

that is gonna suck, (like lord zammy said) it'll be like a micro.
without the gba port it kinda lacks for some games like pokemon and game makers we have to change that.
all they wanna do it squeeze more money out of us.

I don't think I'll get it. I really like the ability to play GBA games on my Lite, and I don't think I'll be willing to give that up just yet. There are still a lot of good GBA games, and many of them (like people said) can link up to DS games.

Also, in relation to what creepy said, I bought my GBA SP only because it was smaller and had a light on the screen (really helps on car rides). I bought the DS Lite for pretty much the same reasons.

well, really, the only point in having a GBA port is for the games which have extras on them for having a GBA cart in at the same time. Though the new pokemon games will suffer a blow from this, any of us which have GBA games are 99% likey to have a GBA to play them on anyway.
