Entries for our St Patrick's Day themed competition may be posted in the Week 197 Entry Thread. More than four entries this time would be nice! ;)

I really like number 4, Really good, wonder if there is going to be a background like that...

Couldn't decide between #1 and #2. I decided on #2 because it flows alot more.

Same, really hard to choose from 1 and 2. Voted for #2 though, looks very nice.

I prefer #1 over #2. They look fairly equally well made in that the artists appear to have similar levels of skill, but I separated them by critiquing both...

In Kirby's signature I can easily see a running theme - the different images used that make up the signature are not just thrown together at random. Several shades of blue contrast with the character and there's some good depth in the background, while additionally the gridlines continue the technical theme present in the render.
What brings this signature down is the render being too small and the height of the signature being too big, its lack of flow and lack of a focal point. While the background has depth and the gridlines are all well and good, they should definitely not be repeated across the entire signature as they massively spoil it; I would recommend erasing them and leaving them only visible at a certain small point, for example in the gap below the text. Concerning flow and focal point, the signature is flat. It has a background with depth, yes; but when I look at this signature my eyes do not fix on one point, they want to look at several aspects of it at once: the render; that bright space of the background to the left of it; the text; the gridlines, the strange blank space of background to the right of the render... Everything is happening everywhere together.

In Haruki's signature I cannot see a running theme. The signature is the same shade of blue as the render, sure, but I don't see any images in the signature that bear any relation the render. In fact I can't even tell what the background is - there are bright spots everywhere! What are they?
The signature is of a suitable size for the render, as it is small and positioned appropriately so that it primarly attracts attention. So instantly we have a focal point - something my eyes go to, and linger on, before anything else. The real problem with this signature is that there is no flow whatsoever. I can't tell what the image(s) in the background are and there's something strangely layered over top of them on low opacity that I can't make out either. Then there are all these little light blotches! This is the opposite of Kirby's signature, in that the images appear to be thrown together randomly. To make matters worse the text is not antialiased and I believe the signature is spoiled by its bright white border.

All in all.. #1 pops out at me. #2 doesn't. But I hope I've brought up some points that both of you will be able to take onboard and work on. ;)
