https://www.nordichardware.com/news/69- ... an-sandy-bridge.html Granted, the product hasn't been released officially yet, but reports have been showing up that the TDP the processors were rated at are higher than initially expected. Most prior reports were showing the max TDP of Intel's Ivy Bridge processors peaking at 77W, which is actually a decent bit lower than their current generation. This would ideally mean a higher threshold for overclocking, as the processors could remain cooler for the same frequency. However, this doesn't appear to be holding up. Given that processor performance isn't going to increase too much, if you're waiting for Ivy Bridge it may not be worth the wait. They're due out at the end of the month, so more tests will be showing up soon. |

Some more information regarding overclocking + undervolting the Ivy Bridge processors now that some of them have officially been released. It looks to not handle extra voltage well, which results in the lower overclocking ability. However, the article shows that even while undervolting the processors, a decent overclock can be achieved. The 3770k has a core clock of 3.4Ghz, but they were able to achieve a 3.9Ghz overclock (500Mhz across 4 cores) while lowering the power draw and heat output of the processor. Not bad. Granted, this generally isn't a huge concern in the desktop space, but it does show that while they're not great for uber-high end enthusiasts, they are nice for "normal" people. And it does show that they'll be great in the mobile market, too. |
