Post subject: | New computer??? |
Hello my RSBANDBUpdate! friend! I am sent to this forum by King Kulla in recent episode to ask about computers! I need to buy a good laptop, one that can run Runescape (duh), be able to run and record FIFA '12 and FRAPS at same time, and brows internet quickly. I also need computer that would be good for recording audio, since I do many message for TSV München (my profesional football club) fans. Budget is fairly low, I only make low weekly wage for footballer standard and have bought car and have to pay for half of appartment (i have room mate). Danke! The Ger Man |

When you say "fairly" low could you please elaborate? More specific of what you would be able to afford. |

Alright, so a few questions -- 1 - What is the budget. 2 - Do you care what size the laptop is? 11"? 13? 14? 17? 3 - Do you care what the resolution on the screen is? 1366x768 (720p) OK? Or do you want something closer to 1920x1080 (1080p) 4 - How long do you want this to last? Is FIFA 12 going to be the most stressful game you want to play? The longer you want this to last, and the more you want to play on this, the more $$ it'll take. 5 - What about battery life? Does this need to last for 8 hours, or would 2-3 hours be fine? 6 - If you're not overly concerned about portability, a desktop would definitely handle the specific aspect of video & audio recording a bit better than a laptop. This is especially true if you're planning on doing good quality recordings, versus "everything at low graphics, low resolution" and lower fidelity audio. |

Budget is around 500 Euro, battery life does not matter much, size is no issue, high resolution would be nice but no neccisary |

I'm not sure about buying in the UK, but for North America, something like this would probably work. 17.3", so not overly portable.. 4GB RAM, dedicated graphics card, i5 processor, 1600x900 display. The HDD isn't the fastest, but it shouldn't be the worst. I've got 5400RPM drives in my laptop, and they work fine for everything. Haven't had to do any FRAPS stuff lately, but I doubt you'll have issues. Here are some similar laptops, usually in the 15.6" range. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834246214 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215197 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215084 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834215196 Unfortunately, these all have lower resolution screens than the 17" one... For some reason, people have become accustomed to these 720p screens, instead of opting for the better screens. EDIT -- So here's the requirements for FIFA '12 via this site Minimum system requirements * OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 * CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo at 1.8 GHz / Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 5400+ * RAM: 1 GB XP, 2 GB Vista/7 * HDD: 6.5 GB free disk space * Graphics: 256 MB Graphics Memory * Sound Card: DirectX 9 Compatible * DirectX: Version 9.0c Recommended system requirements * OS: Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 * CPU: Core 2 Duo E6750 2.66GHz / Athlon II X2 245e * RAM: 3 GB XP, 4 GB Vista/7 * HDD: 6.5 GB free disk space * Graphics: 512 MB Graphics Memory (GeForce GTS 240 or Radeon HD 3870 * Sound Card: DirectX 9 Compatible * DirectX: Version 9.0c With any of the suggested laptops, you're beating the recommended system requirements. Unfortunately Fraps will likely be encoding on the fly, so I can't say for sure how well it'll perform in that case. If possible, set it for lossless capture and throw the media out to an external device / secondary HDD. That way, you can encode that after your games, rather than encode while playing. It's possible that the i5 that is in many of the recommended systems will handle encoding + playing the game at the same time just fine, but it's an option to consider if you are having issues with framerate. |
