Purchased a Toshiba Mini Netbook 10.1" Display / 1GB Memory / 250GB Hard Drive. http://us.toshiba.com/computers/laptops ... k/NB500/NB505-N500BL

I got it at a discount because they were out of stock and it was a display model. With the purchase, I got a discounted upgrade to windows 7 premium, and also picked up an extra 1 gig of ram to bring it up to 2 gig's.

I'm really loving it so far. It took me a few hours to remove all the junkware that pc makers seem to think people want. It's actually runs runescape better than the desktop I've been using. There's a small cooling vent and fan on the left side so it stay's surprisingly cool, with no problem having sit directly on my lap.

I would have preferred to get regular laptop, with enough power to do some serious gaming, but it was way out of my budget, and I wanted something portable that I could afford.

Opinion's on my new netbook purchase?

It's a nice netbook, though the problem I have with netbooks in general is that their keyboards are so incredibly tiny. I don't got fat fingers at all and I still press multiple keys at the same tme on my Toshiba Netbook.

Same problem here. I can type with the keyboard, but I make plenty of errors in the process. Also, I miss the numeric keypad, not used to having to go up top for the numbers. Overall though, it's still nice to finally have something portable. I look forward to relaxing out on the back porch during the summer evenings using my net book, playing runescape, browsing the web, watching some videos, or just reading an ebook.

With the upgrades you got, and the fact that it will play RuneScape (brothers netbook plays it, but not very good) I think you got a great deal.

When I'm on my sister's netbook, I'm accustomed to thumb-type. Like you do with a phone that has a QWERTY keyboard form factor. Like you hold a GameBoy. I find that way much easier than to just type with the ridiculously small keyboard.

Ya, I could never personally use one just cause they are so small, but it looks like you got a great deal and it has some really nice features. Good buy. d=(^_^)z

Hahahaha. I'm not sure they're THAT small. You're way too into your Androids... :P

Most laptops just really aren't lightweight or small enough to be considered portable, in my opinion, so I was looking at getting a netbook earlier in the year too; that looks one looks really sleek. Good call on the RAM upgrade and nice purchase. :)

Oh, I didn't mean to say, "accustomed to" now that I look at the post again. I meant to say, "I THUMB-TYPE". Really, it's not that bad. More accurate than touch typing on a keyboard that isn't 100%. Try it at the store! :P
A bit off-topic, but I HATE laptops with numpads, those are my dealbreakers.

Me too, actually. I mean, they're handy to have, but they totally mess up your natural hand positioning and bleh. They're gross on laptops.

Yea my ASUS laptop is basically a desktop computer. (pretty bulky for a laptop) 4x more powerful than any of my desktop computers so i decided to get one and just use it. When i move out i'll still probably use it as a desktop until everythings settled in. hopefully 8 cores are cheap by then or might even pay more for even more cores since they keep increasing as years pass... *remembers when dual core was beast to have*

Now that you've posted this, I'm seriously considering getting a netbook. It would probably be a little more handy than a laptop with the same capabilities I use mine for...at a cheaper price. Any recommendations on good netbooks aside from this one?

Just as an example, TigerDirect has an EEE PC dual core atom netbook for $289. It has Nvidia ION graphics, so you'll actually be able to play HD videos without issues.

I was thinking I would use it more for word processing and internet browsing more so than for gaming. That's what my desktop is for (which I'm planning to upgrade this summer). Speaking of desktop upgrades, though, when do the new AMD's come out? Any clue.
