I've recently looked into purchasing a tablet to type notes on during class. I currently use a Acer Netbook to take notes during lectures. I love the small, portability of a netbook. I just don't see me lugging around my 17' inch Gateway FX to classes to type notes. Ive been thinking about a tablet due to the sleekness and just for the fact i feel i need the latest technology. Has anyone played around or own an Ipad or Galaxy Tab? If so, how do you like typing on it. My smart phone is a Samsung Galaxy S so a Galaxy Tab is just a bigger version of my phone. It would be nothing new to me im just not sure about typing full essays of notes using Swype to type for a long period. http://www.apple.com/ipad/ http://galaxytab.samsungmobile.com/ Comments, thoughts, concerns? |

The iPad is great as a mobile computer and almost great for note taking. The only problem I found with it is if you are in an economics class and require symbols (, ), $, #, etc. you will be tapping lots to alternate to the symbol keyboard. You should probably buy the keyboard dock with it. I'd also recommend a stand so you can prop it up. There are LOTS of apps out there for ink note taking, there are also apps for hybrid note taking (ink and text). With that being said, you say full essays, I wouldn't type a full essay on the iPad keyboard, you'd need the docked version for that. I switched back to my MacBook Pro for notes, primarily because of the need to be pressing the symbol key to switch to the symbol keyboard and I have a tablet built in to the MacBook Pro (using Inklet). If you go with the iPad you want this Stylus: http://tenonedesign.com/sketch.php |

Personally, I don't like the tablets just because of their size. I have big hands and need a laptop with a full size keyboard to get anything done. Sounds like a tablet would fit for you. If you don't mind size, then tablets are a great way to go. They are decently cheap depending on what you get and are portable. Only other thing I don't like about tablets, though, but I don't know much about is battery life. I like my battery life to be as long as I can get it cause I like to use my laptop without the charger more often then not. But ya, if you are really leaning towards a tablet, I'd get one. If it's just for note taking mostly and internet, it fits those tasks pretty well. |
