http://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2010/08/st ... ple-seeking-patent-0 Apple is seeking to patent some device that will take as many person details about you it can. I've already been fed up with Apple with their completely closed systems and other fails (iPad), but this crosses the line. I'll never get anything with Apple on it. |

Just wonderful. Anyone who is a techy might get around this or just not use it while everyone else has no idea what it does. Just fantastic. Sarcasm aside, this can't be that great of a product/idea. Don't see the benefits of having such a thing. Apple running out of ideas perhaps? |

http://www.eff.org/about wrote: From the Internet to the iPod, technologies are transforming our society and empowering us as speakers, citizens, creators, and consumers. When our freedoms in the networked world come under attack, the Electronic Frontier Foundation (EFF) is the first line of defense. I would question the source of the story. These countermeasures would be used to track a missing device. You also have to remember that these countermeasures would have to be enabled by you in the event you lose your device. Right now on iOS devices you have to explicitly enable location based services before the OS will report any location data to an application, even Safari. What has Apple done so far to lose trust? Have they made your details available to the public (ie. Facebook?) I still trust them with my data. In regards to detecting increased memory usage to prevent jailbreaking, just another defence tactic by Apple. Granted the open ecosystem of Android is great for a developer but the closed ecosystem is good too. The closed ecosystem is good for preserving user experience to the t. Also I'm sure Apple wants to make sure their devices are used as they designed them, if I was designing hardware or software I would too. |

And this my friends is why I LOVE my HTC MyTouch with Android. As Shane said, Im not to sure about the worth of the story, but if it is true, then that is jst one of the many thing that will make Apple fall into the shadow of Microsoft once more. On a side note, I need to buy a new iPod, mine got stolen ![]() |

Apple is also pattenting a technology to remotely brick jailbroken devices =( But when you think about it again, the jailbreakers (ie COMEX) would just disable this as part of the jailbreak.. You can do other things to create memory usage (downloading files via "Downloads" app on the app store, podcasts on itunes, etc) And think about the amount of revenu they would loose with doing this... |

I think some of what they're trying to do is a little suspect to say the least. But it'll never affect me anyway because I'd never buy and Apple product on principle. |

Figured I'd post this here, because more people are going to **** on Apple for this: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/national/apple_applies_for_iphone_anti_sexting_EISSiG7CqJq2ycPuVMo2eN Apple now has an anti-sexting patent... which means that the few people who actually used an iPhone to text are going to come up with new slang soon. |

The only way they could do that with text messages is obviously a simple text censor. Bad apples. |

Steve Jobs ought to go down south where religious people are more tolerated. Not sure if it can be prevented, at least not on future devices. They can't retroactively roll it out, as that would be limiting features of something you weren't expecting when the original purchase was made. Jeeze, Apple makes good hardware, but their high and mighty philosophies are getting to be a bit annoying. |
