If I was buying a PC laptop I'd buy this Dell Studio 1558. Highlight being the Core i5 chip and decent amount of memory. If that's too expensive for you look at another Dell. |

Would you customize it anyway or is it good by itself. |

Marking, what are you planning to use this laptop for? Gaming, video editing, or just general Internet surfing? |

I'd tend to agree with Shane's offering of the Dell Studio 15. Another option is to look and see if whatever college you're going to has a deal with some OEM. Most OEMs allow you to imput a zipcode or college name and they'll see if they already have a deal with the college, so it'd be worthwhile to look for that on Dell's website or any other site you're thinking of buying from. It wouldn't hurt to see what repair options are available on campus, and near campus, if there do happen to be any hardware issues. |

I have a Dell Studio 17 that I bought last year, this laptop is great and can run BC2 with the ATI mobility radeon HD3650 that it came with. Even though Dell the company has gone down the drain, the studio laptops are very good, given you are taking care of it. |

I would have suggested a laptop from the HP Pavillion series, but due to the high volume of anti-hp people in here ![]() I did find a computer at walmart that i think is pretty good. It's at your budget (it's actually reduced in price, dont know for how long), but the only mar in it is the processor (it's i3), and the graphics card is integrated. Not sure about the gaming aspect, but you should be able to run some games on it. Here's the link: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Dell-17.3-500-GB-i1764-7629OBK/13316844?findingMethod=rr. Also, if walmart or any other computer place can let you demo it, try asking if you can visit this internet site on the laptop of choice: http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri. This will tell you if you can run the game(s) that you want to play. Cheers, dafin0 ![]() |

For your bugdet, the dm4 series is okay. Again, the integrated graphics card is the issue here (That depends on how good you want your game graphics to look). And unlike the dell's 15 inch screen, it only has a 14 inch screen (you get what you pay for). that's why it's about 40 dollars less. But this dell that everyone's mentioning seems a excellent choice, so id take a good look at that one. http://www.shopping.hp.com/series/category/notebooks/dm4t_series/3/computer_store?jumpid=in_r329_personalization/browse2/SDP_SDP Also, as a general question. What games do you have that you want to play on a laptop (runescape can pretty much run on any computer these days, so that's settled ![]() Before you go exchanging cash with anybody (or any site), visit several computer shops. Tell them what you want to use it for and how much you want to pay. Then, go over them to see which one is best (It wouldn't hurt to post a couple on here). Cheers, dafin0 ![]() |

This laptop is going to be used for college not for gaming...unless I start playing computer games. I posted two laptops on here that looked good but im not sure here they are again. The acer has decent specs other than the graphics. Intel Integrated is a no-no if you ever want to do gaming, and pretty much the same goes for high def movies.. Not sure if that'd handle the decoding, unless it's all processor based, in which case you're fine. You're in the same boat for the MSI. I headed over to Newegg and took a look at what they've got.. Not sure about the warranties, and I'd be sure to get a decent warranty for something that you'll be putting in and out of your backpack every day, but they've got 7 notebooks under $700 with dedicated graphics, and a few more in there as I put the max price to $750. Newegg's deals To narrow it down a bit more, I'd look more at the Intel processors as AMD has been really lost in the dust, especially on the mobile front. I'm not sure how well the warranties they offer extra work, but it'd be worthwhile to see if you could get an extended warranty through the OEM vs the aftermarket warranty. Out of all of the ones displayed on the page I'd look at this Acer Aspire the most. It's the only one that's new that has a decent processor (My mom has the Pentium t4500, and while good enough for normal everyday use, you're not going to be doing anything close to actual gaming with it. At least with an i3 you'd have a bit more of a chance to have fun if you felt like it), though it's right at your price point, and a bit over if you add in shipping. Again, no matter what you get, I'd look at an extended warranty. Most of these are given a 1 year + 1 year accidental damage warranty (so a total of one protected year), and I'd at least try for two full years. |

But why would the acer you picked out not be able to handle video games? |

Post subject: | Re: new laptop |
It would (at least some) due to the dedicated graphics card, and decent processor. |
