OK, so my dad's laptop is running at an ungodly speed, and I've managed to convince him it's mostly because of the Norton AntiVirus he has installed on it.
We have Norton installed on 2 of our other 3 computers as well, and both seem to run on less than optimal speeds.

So, my question is, what antivirus program do you suggest I replace Norton with?

AVG and Avast! are good free anti-virus programs.

Ditto on both, though I've been recommending AVG to most everyone...If you can help it, stay away from Norton (I'm stuck with it per school regulations :x )

AVG an Avast or AVG and Spyware terminator. Our school's system security is obsolete so they don't care what we do lol...but norton sucks big time.

AVG for anti-virus, windows defender for spyware and that kind of stuff and ZoneAlarm or Ghost wall for firewall. Thats what I do.

For a firewall I recommend Comodo Firewall Pro.

I'd disagree with Windows Defender. That's pretty terrible. You should go with Ad-Aware Free edition for spyware and all the rest of it.

Or... you could install Linux on them.

I use AVG and ZoneAlarm Pro and I have no problems with viruses or being slow. Pretty much what everyone suggests is the best combination.
