What is the best web browser? And which one should I use? Also should I uninstall norton anti-virus and just get AVG? Is it worth all the space it saves? |

Yes Firefox. You could try Opera if you want more features to use. Personally I find it a bit confusing. As for Norton... just let it run out if you've bought it. Go to AVG after it runs out. Shane |

As for web browser, I would recommend Opera. I've been using it for a few years now, and there are some features in there that speed up your browsing so much you just can't live without them. Only simple people find it confusing ![]() Antivirus - I would recommend just uninstalling Norton. It uses far more space, ram and processor power than Norton. Many Antivirus applications have a reputation for being memory hogs - Norton is the epitome of that. AVG is far smaller, uses less ram and processor power, but is still a very good antivirus. |

Use either Opera or FireFox as a web browser. I personally prefer Opera because it loads up faster, is standards-compliant, has mouse gestures, and Speed-Dial. As for anti-virus, YES GET RID OF NORTON ASAP. I did a little experiment on my computer, which had Norton installed on it, by going into msconfig.exe and turning off all startup programs that are related to Norton. When I booted up, my page file usage dropped from 444 MB to 145 MB. Plus it loads up programs faster and crashes less. So uninstall Norton now and install AVG free. |

I didn't know it used that much. I might try uninstalling McAfee, actually. I don't use my Windows comp very much, and it would do just fine with AVG. McAfee is pretty much the best antivirus there is, but I don't know if the performance hit is worth it. I've got various processes which probably total to 100mb or so. How much RAM does AVG use, cowboy? Yeah, mouse gestures and speed dial are some of the biggest things i love about Opera. The sidebar is awesome, too, with bookmarks and all the rest of it in the panels at the side. And custom searches. I couldn't cope without all of those things. |

MattVortex wrote: ...How much RAM does AVG use, cowboy?... I have yet to find out; uninstalling Norton resulted in my computer, for some reason, getting infected by a virus. It's gone now, for some reason; installing AVG now to find out. Luckily the virus did not affect Opera in anyway, so I was able to get AVG. |

I agree, firefox is the way to go man. i've tried opera but im with Shane, its pretty different. with firefox, u wont have much of a learning curve. just remember, firefox takes up a lot of RAM when run for a while compared to IE. If you've got more than 2 mb of RAM you'll be fine though. ![]() |

In my opinion there is no "best" when it comes to the browser wars except that IE is pretty much the worst. I use Firefox the most but I also use Opera sometimes, they are both very good browsers. How much RAM does AVG use, cowboy? I had McAfee on two of my computers but it slowed them down and caused problems once I got rid of McAfee and installed AVG everything started working good. The point is, I couldn't live without them now. When using IE or Firefox, I keep opening right-click menus, because mouse gestures in Opera are activated with right click. I open tabs expecting digg and B&B and other sites to be there in speed dial. I send my mouse to the left hand side of the screen and click, expecting to see my bookmarks. And again, when using IE and FF, i keep typing g or wi or whatever, then a search term, expecting to be sent straight to a google or wikipedia search. It's like broadband internet - a lot of people question why it would be necessary, then once they have it wonder how they did without it. |

As for browsers I would suggest Firefox and for anti-virus, Kaspersky. IMO i think Norton is horrible. If you've paid for Norton and don't mind paying for anti-virus software get Kaspersky cuz tbh, its better than AVG. If not AVG works fine. |

I use AOL Explorer, and I like it a LOT. No, you don't need to use AOL for it. But imo the browser is excellent. |
