For the record on any Windows machine that I use personally and no one else touches I don't use an anti virus. It's all behavior related anyways.. don't go off and do that.

For other windoes computers...
What I use: AVG Free
Works well
Pay $0
Yep, happy enough.

Personally Norton and McAfee make me cringe. :x

I've got a mandatory Norton program installed on my computer, otherwise I'd be using AVG Free. I've installed it on home computers that my family uses, and have no qualms about trusting something free to work well.

what do you use: Kaspersky Internet Security 7.0
does it work well: Yes, very well
what do you pay: Well, that depends: for the all-encompassing internet security package, which I have, I pay 80$ but only for the AV it is 60$. Keep in mind returning customers receive a 30% discount and that version upgrades are supplied free of charge while your subscription is valid.
are you happy: Yes, quite pleased. No noticeable system slowdown, program passes various tests consistently, performs well on independent tests (ex: av-comparatives.org), excellent support forum.
where did you get it: From kaspersky.com

If you want to test your Anti-Virus software you can follow the instructions here and see if it detects it.

What I Use: AVG Free
Does it work well? Yeah, I don't remember the last virus I had that caused me a problem.
I actually don't know why it's installed though, since I don't remember the last time I got a virus. XD
Pay: $0
Happy? Automatic updates are, in my opinion, really annoying, and cause a significant decrease in system performance during startup. Interface looks crap (but thank god they didn't try as hard as Norton or McAfee which were both failures), otherwise the actual virus detection and stuff is excellent.
