Ok, I've had my computer for two+ years, and I'm suprised It's not obsolete yet. Every summer the fans speed up and make A LOT of noise, so I feel like upgrading my fans.

Any suggestions?

Maybe put less use on your CPU, try closing a few programs? At least my fan only gets noisy when my usage is 100%, otherwise it's virtually silent. Air conditioning would be nice too.

Winrot has taken over my processor and I don't feel like moving 80GB of stuff just to reinstall.

I usually have a web browser open and that's just about it.

EDIT: my fan goes nuts when my screensaver starts and when I have lots of stuff open, but I usually don't have lots of stuff open.

I live in AZ, so my AC has been on for a while, so that's not a factor...

For new 120mm fans, I'd say go with the Zalman and a Zalman fanmate.
Then you can have silence all the time, and when you're just browing or whatever, you can turn the RPM on then fans down, then when you're having other applications which may take a lot on your CPU and RAM and whatnot, you can turn up the RPM on the fans.

And then you'll be a somewhat happy guy :D

If winrot has taken over, summer is a good time to reinstall, because you'll have lots of time on your hands. I would recommend buying yourself a backup hard drive of some sort to do the reinstall. I've had a backup HD for a few months now, and it has proven to be an invaluable asset.

What kind of positions is your computer tower in at the moment? Is it down by the floor or on a table, at the same height as your monitor? Also, can you list your comp specifications here, as that would help with finding a fan or cooler of some sort.

Move your computer to your basement.

Mines in my basement and it nearly NEVER has its fan turn on (exept when playing games [guns, sims, rct...])

I know that my fan goes off at like 35% so useing less CPU might be a problem.
