Thanks to everyone that turned up =D

Hi Guys,

Hopefully some of you will remember seeing some of my posts at one time or another on Runewire, and for those of you that haven't had the pleasure of meeting me :P, I am RicH, or Geofracture, as I am known in game.

Just making a Goals & Achievement post to outline my current goal, which is of course, 99 Mining.

It all started after I got 85 Mining at the Granite Quarry, since then I have been eager to train mining to get the awesome and rare Skill Cape & Emote that is rewarded, but Camping for months on end at the Granite Quarry really put me off.

On 17th September Jagex introduced the Living Rock Caverns, a high level addition to the Mining Skill, allowing Players to gather Fast Gold & Coal Ore from Concentrated Rock Veins that worked similar to that of the Woodcutting & Fishing Skills, but required a skill level of 77 & 80 Mining.
Although training in the Caverns, didn't come without perils. Within the Caverns are high levelled Monsters, Living Rock Protectors & Living Rock Strikers, levels 120 & 140 respectively. At first I shrugged the idea of training where I was constantly in Peril, and continually running from Aggravated Monsters.
But before I gave up completely I was introduced to a newly created Mining Clan that operated in World 84, called Mining Golds. The Clan worked by calling which Gold Rocks became available, then everyone piles them with minimum casualties & maximum experience gain. If you have ever Star Hunted (for Distractions & Diversions), it works similar to that.

So now I have reiterated my 99 Mining Goal and it's now very achievable and within grasp in the Living Rock Caverns.

I would ask all you guys to wish me luck, but lucks not a factor, instead wish me good patience.

Thanks

:)

At the moment, I have plans to use around 45,000 of my gold ores to superheat to 99 Magic, and 85 Smithing, then I'll probably just sell the excess, although I'm still not fully sure.

This guide is just to outline how I currently train Mining in the Living Rock Caverns, this is not the best guide by a long shot, although it is my personal method for Mining & it has worked for me thus far.

First of all you will need the basics to begin mining. Below shows my Inventory & my equipment.

Image

Image

As you can see I don't carry a lot of baggage. Obviously if you have a dragon pickaxe you should bring that instead, and a lot of players also bring a weapon & better melee armour in case they have to fight the Living Rock Strikers (140) or Living Rock Protectors (120), although I usually just run from the enemy.
I personally find that the Black Dragon Hide is defensive enough to suffice whilst I mine, although this varies depending on how much I'm concentrating. I should also mention that I am 73 Defence. If you are lower defence it would probably be better if you use Rune Armour.

I also don't carry anything in my inventory, although some players do carry food and summoning pouches (Pack Yak, Lava Titan, Spirit Terrorbird, War Tortoise, Obsidian Golem etc). Don't get me wrong, summoning does speed the process up, but being 25 summoning really puts me at a disadvantage #-o

So how do you get there?

First of all, enter the Mining Guild behind Falador East Bank, shown on the picture below.

Image

From inside the Mining Guild you can make your way out & past the agility wall obstacle & finally climb the rope down the Chasm to lead you into the Living Rock Caverns. How to get there is shown below.

Image

The map below shows the Living Rock Caverns, and the locations of the concentrated ore deposits. The primary Mining Locations for fast ores are South West Gold (SW) South East Gold (SE) & occasionally North East Gold (NE). The Coal Surrounding SE & SW Gold are also viable options, and are generally readily available.

Image

To Maximise your experience and efficiency it is suggested that you join World 84 Mining Golds & listen to the 'Calls' that are made by members. Generally the first gold ore that is called (usually SW or SE) is the gold that you have to mine.

Image

Another thing I would like to mention, when a Gold Rock is called, it is important to go to that rock first before you start mining another Gold Mine.
Two Gold Rocks with people Mining them unnecessarily deteriorates them both at the same time & reduces the team's efficiency, as they may both go down at the same time & need players to wait longer for another ore to be available.

Quote from Runewiki
Quote:
There are 4 concentrated gold rocks and 8 concentrated coal rocks within Living Rock Cavern. The concentrated ores run on a timer, not giving out a specific amount of ore but collapsing and reopening at random.

Although, generally Coal Rocks can be mined by whenever.

Also players should be aware that there are Living Rock Strikers (140) that will throw rocks at you as a range attack. Generally these can be avoided when at most Ore Deposits, although they are exclusively a problem at South West & North East Gold. If you can't seem to shake them, try running far into an open space, once they stop attacking you it should be safe to return.

That's it guys.

Happy Mining

If you feel that I have missed any major points, or wish me to expand upon this guide, please post a reply & I will, to the best of my ability, update the guide.

This Guide was made for Italy4Life

For those of you that wish to talk to me, you can add 'Geofracture' to your friends list, or you can come to the Living Rock Caverns in W84, and join 'Mining Golds' CC. You can view my Runewire Account here: http://www.runewire.com/ragerich

Anyway that pretty much rounds it up. Hope to have 99 Mining around New Year or several Weeks after (I don't play a lot during the week)

Yeah Josec I reckon I could get 99 Runecrafting because its just a tad slower than 99 Mining, but there's a lot more concentration involved, compared with Mining concentrated ores. Anyway if I was to train Runecrafting I'd probably stop at 91, and then slowly work on one level at a time whenever I needed money. It would hurt my head too much to concentrate on Runecrafting till 99 #-o

Good luck with 99 Richy! I may look at doing some mining in the future, although it might be a while before I get the time to get around to it. (I'm currently 71, almost entirely from mining coal).

No problem Italy. I recommend starting it at level 77. It will probably be slightly slower than granite at 77, although it is a lot less boring.
I think it's about 250k - 300k at the moment, but it's constantly going down
