Introduction
As most of you know, I achieved level 91 RuneCrafting in November of 2008. I see it as one of my greatest accomplishments in the 4 years I have been playing RuneScape. Yes, I've been playing for 4 years and I still don't have a 99. It's somewhat "embarrassing", but I found myself getting bored with skills easily prior to Operation: Disthine Molenko. A friend of mine irl and myself tried to decide on a skill that we would both achieve together as our first 99 last year. Smithing has always been a favorite skill of mine, so we agreed that we would get that. After doing some in-depth calculations we sort of lost motivation to get it and then he stopped playing RS all together. Upon achieving level 91 RuneCrafting, I've gained a much longer attention span for training skills, and acquired a great source of reliable money. Finally, after 4 years of playing, I'm going to get 99 Smithing as my first 99. It's not typical first skill to achieve 99 in, but that's part of the reason I'm going for it.
Preparation
(Christmas Break 2008)
This wasn't exactly a crucial step in my goal, but it did speed up the funding phase to an extent. I completed it in 1-2 weeks over Christmas Break. Roughly 100 games of GoP were played earning slightly over 50,000 reward tokens.
Phase 1: Funding
(January 1, 2009 - January 17, 2009)
During this phase I averaged about 8-10k nature runes a day. After crafting all the natures, I had made about 29m (33m in all).
Phase 2: Tools
(January 18, 2009 - January 25, 2009)
These are some of the most important things in this project. They should cut the price of 99 smithing by nearly half. Let's hope my calculations are correct.
Phase 3: Smithing
(January 26, 2009 - ?)
Of course, this is the main attraction. I plan on smithing adamant plates all the way to 99. Not sure on a projection of when I'll achieve 99, but I'll keep everyone updated.
