Post subject:  Help me Improve Please

Image

I know compared to a lot of people here it absolutely rubbish, and that's why I posted it here. I don't want a rating, nor flaming of it. I just want constructive critiscim and a way I can improve it.

I realise it doesn't have a render in it, thats because:

a) I couldn't find one that matched
b) I'm not too certain WHERE to find renders (Google for me :P)
c) I have no experience blending things together

PLEASE HELP ME

Lil Ninja911

Pfft. You could have just pmed me :P

Right then..

To find renders, I have always used http://www.render-world.com/gallery/
Lots of stuff there.

'Blending' can be done in a variety of ways, now, I'm going to assume you're using photoshop, if not, thn I cant help you since I dont know gimp/shop.

1) Hue/Saturation.

Press Ctrl+U. This will open up the Hue/Saturation window. messing with the settings here can change the Hue (colour) and saturation (how colourful) your layer is. Checking the 'colourize' box will completely change your render to a particular colour, where as if it isnt checked each colour in your layer will change at the same rate, but not to the same colour. Try experimenting with that.

2) Feather and Clouds.

This effect only works for a few types of renders, it creates a basic misty, fantasy effect.

Using the magic wand tool to select the transparent parts of your renders' layer, right click and select 'feather'. Enter a value of 10, and hit delete 1 time. Now repeat the process but enter 5, then again with 2.5, then again with 1.

Now you'll see that your image has a very blurry outline. make a new layer, and use the clouds filter. found in "Filters>Render>Clouds".

Use your magic wand tool and select the darker areas of the clouds. Feather at a number of 10-20, and hit delete a few times.

Now use a soft brush in "clear mode", (changable at the top of the screen where it would normally say "normal"), and get rid of some of the clouds.

Now, with your cloud layer, experiment with changing it's opacity and blending mode to create a mist effect.

3) Pixel Stretch.

Starting a sig from scratch, find any render you like. Now, using the "single coloumn marquee tool" (hold down your mouse button on the selection tool) select an area of your render which covers a one pixel area from the top to bottom of your canvas.

Press Ctrl+C.

Make a new layer, and press Ctrl+V. Now press Ctrl+T.

Stretch your layer to fill your canvas. You will now have a basic background which will almost always match the render. However I would avise you to use a number of effects, (filters or custom brushes) to make your sig look a tad better.

I hope that helped ^^
Basically, just experiment with different things, combine filters and tools to come up with something that looks good.

it might help u, it might not, try it out if u like =)

Actually, I dont think its that bad, Add a bit more of that shattered glass look into it maybe and it would be even better. Maybe find a shattered glass text to go with it.

Sorry to bring this up again but one last question:

Where can I find somewhere to download brushes from - I can get Fonts from Da Font but I don't know where to get brushes from.

Also Aunbis thanks for the tips and if your looking for another site with good renders then another friend tipped me off about this site: http://www.gamerenders.com

EDIT: Anubis I just went to go back to the site you gave me and I got the "The page cannot be displyed" message. Is it working for you?

You can download brushes from http://www.deviantart.com. Although you may have to search around a bit.

And yes, the site I gave you IS working for me.

Umm, Nubish, Render-World dot com doesn't work, and for a long time.
The border is cool, however it doesn't match the color of the background, so, as Anubis said, use Hue/Saturation. I like the text the most anyway, so it would be better if you'd just colorize the border and the background to green. Also, next time put a render in it and try working with some brushes.

Sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't, but it's being nice today and working for me now.
However if it doesn't work for you, there are other sites such as http://www.clantemplates.com and http://www.gamerenders.com you can go to for renders.

Render-World works for me.

Anubis gave you a lot of good advice on how to begin making sigs. There are really no strict rules though. Just have fun and make what YOU think looks good.

Another good site for renders is Planet Renders. Its updated pretty much daily and theres a couple thousand there. once there, just click renders. It's all categorized so it's easy to find what you are looking for, and it has a wider variety than gamerenders.

As for tutorials, I like www.pslover.com because of the easy search system. It's for photoshop though, so if you are using something else then i can't help ya.

Ok just so everyone can be sure about it, I AM using Photoshop, albeit only Version 7.0 (Don't have $300 to fork our for CS2 yet :( )

Um thanks for the feedback on the signature and yes I will consider changing it all to green to match the font - Will think it over though. Thanks again to Anubis for the hint on where to find brushes, and also everyone else for the other places to find renders and tutorials. Hopefully if I get this finished in time, I may enter it in SOTW (Probably won't go far, but at least I try 8) )

Once again thanks, and I will post the finish result here soon
