Can RuneWire have a @ feature. Today I posted something, and automatically used the @ in front of MetalManiac9 since I was mentioning him. Is there a way to have the @ notify someone when their name is mentioned?

NOT BEFORE LIKE BUTTON. It's not about a popularity contest. It's not about expressing dislike to annoying posts. You like/dislike what the post is about, not the post itself.

NO. Let's Google+ things up and have a +1 button.
And yeah, @ mentions would be cool. @ autofills would be killer useful.

The purpose of the @ on other sites is to reply or direct your post at someone. RuneWire has a built in reply system, why is it needed?

Your post was also like a reply and should have just been posted as a reply to his post.

Yeah I can see that, but what if I were going to post something like
"going to barrows with @Mike and @MetalManiac9" ?

I considered this in my head when designing RW3. The @ mention system does function as a reply system as Mike mentioned. It also can be used for mentions like you said. During the design process in order to bring in @mentions at all it would have resulted in the standard reply system we know being removed. Given the fact that two versions have used that system I felt it was best to keep replies as entities attached to a post.

Also, not to mention changing to an @mention system would have required the database to act like a window on a static stream rather than having a flowing stream and static observer.

In short, even if we wanted to it would be too big a change at this point.

If you want to mention someone, you could say #name. By doing a vanity search on an individual's name, they would know they were mentioned, when they were mentioned, and the context of the mention itself.

Lmao who honestly searches their own name on RuneWire though XD

--EDITSINSERTEDBELOW--
lol What about sending message to someone and having it pop up at the bottom of the screen or something, I guess like a chat thing. So if you see someone on the forums but not MSN you can be like ????? and have instant reply rather than sending a PM and hoping they reload the page and notice and then send you a PM and then you get annoyed since your inbox only has room for 500 messages so you have to make room for their reply because you don't want it to auto delete one of your older PMs HA HA.
