Today we are moving over to a new time standard. This time standard is known as Metric Time. Metric time changes the way time is measured in the same way the metric system changed the way other quantities were measured. Metric time is key for easy conversion between days, hours, minutes, seconds, microseconds, nanoseconds, and more. The conversion of metric time will allow us to specify times with a significantly increased degree of accuracy. Now the question most of you are asking is... How? How do I know what time to come to RSBandB Events?!?! Well lets take a look at that...

It's very simple and only involves a few basic division and addition operations. First of all you will want to convert your time to 24 hour format, so if it's 11:32:47PM that translates to 23:32:47. From here the conversion involves a simple equation. This time translates into
0.9811 or 98.11. One would say this come over to my house at ninety-eight point eleven. We will be using the 0.9811 format on the forums as it's easier to write into a date.

Here is a common conversion chart for converting the old system to metric time:

1 sec = 11.57 µd (microday)
1 min = 0.694 md (miliday)
1 hr = 4.167 cd (centiday)
1 hr = 0.417 dd (deciday)
24 hr = 1 d (day)

Here are some conversions for metric time to the old system:
1 µd (microday) = 0.086 sec
1 md (miliday) = 1.440 min
1 cd (centiday) = 14.40 min
1 dd (deciday) = 2.400 hr
1 d (day) = 24 hr

With all this said, go out and enjoy metric time! If you have any questions about the metric time standard don't hesitate to post.

Edit, April 2: Timestamps on the community forums have been restored to normal. If you'd like to continue using this new standard, just add a + to your date format in the user control panel board preferences.

I think it's doable. Takes a few seconds at first but if you put your mind to it, it'll work. Eventually, you'll realize the benefits.

I'm sorry Shane, but I can't honestly see how this is easier than what we were using.

I don't understand how 23:32:47 translates into .9811. Could you please explain this better?

What prompted this change? If you wanted a decimal time then why didn't you just use decimals instead of colons(23.32.47)?

I could understand using Military time (Or the 24hr Clock) since some countries don't use the 12hr clock.

Is this supposed to make it easier for coding, or for the users?

This doesn't seem necessary at all, and if it's an April fools joke I know you can do better.

Yeah I'll be the first one to be man enough to admit this got me when i saw it on the front page, i came on here with the intention of calling you all rude names and demanding you make it optional.

Now several people have pointed out the bloody obvious I'll just shut up.

it's .9811 cause the 24th hour would be 1.0, even tho with a 24 hour time setting it resets to 00:00:00 at midnight.

next year try changing something further in advance for an april fool's day joke.

I have been waiting for this change since I joined RSBandB!!! I don't have to use those silly converters anymore!

Nice change, should really get more people at the events because they will know what time they are at now. :D

Yes, I figured that, but that doesn't explain exactly how it translates.

I wiki'd Metric time and what this is turns out to be more like Decimal time, which is commonly called Metric time.

It is a pain in the *** already. Can the joke be over now?

P.S. You didn't fool anybody.

If you do something, that would be the way to do it.

Post subject:  Re: A New Time Standard

As to why, it's simple. Why does a high percentage of the world use metric? It's a modern system. Metric time makes it easy to measure large and small amounts of time. Just imagine when you are measuring time in Mega Days.

As to how... Convert to 24 hour first and then use this equation:
Centidays = (hours / 0.24) + (min / 14.4) + (sec / 864)

This will give you the time in centidays, to convert to days just divide by 100. The idea is to express the day as a fraction as power crazy said. As you may see from the equation there are 24 hours in a day, 1440 minutes, and 86400 seconds. These are adjusted to be on the same level (centi) by dividing each by 100.

We didn't include this at first since most teenagers aren't keen of doing math outside of school :(

This is no joke by the way.
