Whenever you visit the forums, the first thing you should do is look at the PM button. If it looks like this: 
That means you should click on it to check it. It is the primary method the staff uses in order to contact users. Failure to check the messages can sometimes result in warnings, because by ignoring these you may be ignoring a staff member's message to you. If you have a New PM, always check your PM Box, if you see anything from a staff member, make sure to read it! |

And it is also helpful to reply that you got the message and understood, but the sender would know if it is read or not anyways, as the message in the sender's pm box goes from the outbox to the sentbox. |

Well I'll be the first non staff to reply. I always check my pms. Every time I refresh the page I look there first. I don't get pms often though.  I think of that as a good thing also because it means that I am not causing trouble.

Hehe, that is certainly one way of looking at it. But i get a lot of pms about people asking questions.

Well it is quite hard to miss if you get a new pm in my opinion... the PM button at the top will look like this:
instead of this 
if you have new PM's But somehow some people that i send warnings to, fail to notice the PM I send them... there is also a popup when you get a new PM, but most people don't get these unless they like tons of pop-ups from all those other pesky sites with annoying pop-up ads, cause they wont have a pop-up blocker. |
