Untill level 15, just farm the highest thing you can in allotment patches, herb patches and flower patches north of catherby. When you hit 15, look up chief snakes "How to farm" guide on YouTube, and follow his fruit tree run. Then start on wood trees when your a high enough level. Following that guide got me into farming... 15-32 in two days at about 30 minutes work a day :)

Waiting at the patch is stupid.
Plant it,pay the farmer if you can, go do something else until it grows. Not hard ;)
Plant the highest thing you can to be more efficient.

If you want to get your thieving up at the same time, you can do sorceress garden. Depending on your thieving level you can get up to 60 farming xp very fast.

To farm efficiently, you need to just stay focused, time when you plant your crops so you can go back to them and get as much xp as possible, so you can be able to farm high level crops, getting more xp. All I can say is good luck, Chief's Farming videos are a best guess to getting a lot of farming xp, but I have also written an article about Farming which can be found here
