I have heard that range hits more often then melee. Example: Rune scimmy vs. Maple bow w/ addy arrows. I'm f2p so I am refering to that example. What would kill faster in most situations?

Yes ranging hits faster and yes you can use a maple bow on f2p ^^

If you talk about the extreme aka pures, then rangers will win since they can have insanely high range levels for their combat, with better d'hide armour for protection. Compared to a melee pure that can only wear iron  Theres also the fact that you can attack from afar, factor in snare/entangle and you can pretty much own any meleer

Also I found that ranger pures own me when I was in full rune =.="

yea range has the speed but lacks power on f2p. combo'd with magic like most of the f2p "pures" do and it's decent even vs meleers.
