The Runescape knowledge base claims that your defence level helps determine whether or not you get hit a 0 or a number. The higher defence you have the more likely it is to be hit a 0 by someone. Keep in mind that this ties in with luck, your armour and the other person's attack and strength. The way I think attack works is by determining whether or not you hit a 0 or a number. I think when you hit a number strength comes into play. depending on your max hit you can hit any number from 1-your max once attack allows you to hit. The higher your max the higher you'll be able to hit since there will be more high numbers to randomly chose from. Tell me if that didn't make any sense at all, I can start saying nonsense that only I understand ![]() |

It may seem like level 80 defence provides the same amount of protection as level 95 because there is that little factor of luck. And because of that little factor of luck almost anything is possible. |

I always thought attack was how fast you hit, strength was how hard you hit, and defence was how others hit you. |

Colin is right. Defence: Probability of you being hit, Evasion. Armour: Amount of damage you get hit. Strength: Amount of damage you inflict. Attack: Accuracy of your hits, probability you hit a red number. Attack weapon bonus: Added accuracy of your weapon to attack. |

Attack: Higher it is the more likely you'll hit and the wider range of melee weapons you can use. Strength: The higher it is the higher the amount of damage you can inflict. Defence: The higher it is the less likely you'll be hit and the wider range of armour you can wear. Depending on what weapon is being used, everyone hits at the same speed, regardless of their Attack level. |
