Post subject:  Dusty Hunting
Has anyone here spent some time killing Dust Devils? If you have, how many did you kill and did you get anything good (Dragon Chain :) ) And is it worth spending the time down there?

I completed a few slayer assignments down there (about 100 dust devils each). No, I didn't get a dragon chain :-) But I got plenty of rune arrows, so all in all it was pretty profitable. And they were quite easy to kill (melee at 95 combat), no issues, not much food needed either.

i've killed about 500, and one dragon drop (spear) and tons of coins, gems, and runes, but no chain.

It's ideal you have bones to peaches bought, alch runes, and a chisel, and you can camp down there for months!

I haven't killed any myself mind you, but a friend killed about 700 he said and got a dragon chain.

Another of my friends got his dragon chain the other day...I think it is just one of those things...sometimes it takes 500 to get a chain and other times it takes 30,000...that is just the way it goes.

My sister got a Dragon Chain in the first 300 or so.

She's always there.

In fact, every day she makes 3 or 4 trips!

Some nights I like to pull up a chair and watch her. I must say, those Dust Devils drop tons of high level herbs, and rune arrows.

One of my friends (who quit a while ago) had killed over 100K dusties in his life and had no d chain, and like 3 weeks before he quit he got 2 d chains in 3 days.

Totally random.

I believe it is 60 magic, along with 2 nature, 4 water and 4 earth runes.

Points at the mage training arena (behind the duel arena):
200 telekenetic
300 alchemy
2000 enchant
200 graveyard

It's funny people either get one in under 1K kills and the other half don't get one. It's dodgy to me.

I think we just here about the people who get one in under 1k kills or don't get one a lot more then the people who kill 5-15k.

I've killed over 10k, no chain.

I spent a few weeks just training and got tons of rune arrows, fair bit of nature tallys, lots of herbs (Mid to high), rune daggers (alch), red vamps (alch), earth b staves (alch), half keys and maybe a few other things.

I was using sharks and Still came out ahead. (Especially since I Fished them all but meh :P you can still come out ahead with buying them)

You don't need to use sharks, swordys or lobbys are fine.

Here's a list of suggested gear to use:

Facemask (Must wear at all times unless you want a free trip to lumby)
Gnome, glory, or fury
Legends, Obby, Fire, or Accomplishment cape
Barrows or rune plate
Barrows or Dargon legs, Rune are fine but have less defence
Dragon square or crystal shield (Obby and defenders are pointless, they give hardly any def in comparison to the above and seriously, does +5 str REALLY make you hit that much higher?)
Any weapon
RFD, family crest, or Black d hide gloves
Rune boots or best melee defense boots you have
Ring of Life or Wealth, or Dueling if you bank at Shantay (not the closest bank though)

You basically want melee defense, Obsidian and Rune defenders are not good shield for fighting dust devils because there defense is worse then a rune kite shield, and they give mainly to range, Dust devils attack via melee.

The Closest bank is Nardah.

They're good training and good drops, they don't hit too hard(8 max) but don't underestimate them. Also, as I'm sure you know, they require 65 slayer and a face mask at all times.
