i cannot make the title any shorter... and Arizona was worried about latinos hoping the border???? http://www.cnn.com/2010/WORLD/americas/ ... er/index.html?hpt=C1 A young Asian man who boarded an Air Canada flight elaborately disguised as an elderly white male was intercepted after emerging from a toilet mid-flight without his silicone mask, according to reports. Officials were notified of a "possible imposter" on an Air Canada flight originating from Hong Kong on Oct. 29. After arriving in Vancouver, the man was escorted off the flight and he subsequently made a claim for refugee protection. According to an intelligence alert issued by the Canada Border Services Agency, officers later recovered a "disguise kit" — which included "a silicone-type head and neck mask of an elderly Caucasian male, a brown leather cap, glasses and a thin brown cardigan." The statement described the case as an "unbelievable case of concealment." "The passenger in question was observed at the beginning of the flight to be an elderly Caucasian male who appeared to have young looking hands," the bulletin added. "During the flight the subject attended the washroom and emerged an Asian male that appeared to be in his early 20s." After being detained at the airport, officials asked the passenger to put on the clothing and mask found in one of three pieces of luggage linked to him. |

I watched this story in the news last night. Very brilliant disguise, maybe the guy should be working as a makeup artist in hollywood. Very scary also though, how easy it would be for a terrorist to slip through the cracks dressed up as a little old man. |

Unfortunately, he's coming at a time when the Canadian government is trying to crack down on illegal immigration, and what are called "queue jumpers", all due to that boatload of people from Sri Lanka showing up in my own city a few months back. Just because he wears a cool disguise and claims political asylum doesn't mean he should be considered ahead of others who have actually gone through the right process. |

Well, Canada does accept around 250,000 immigrants a year. It's a very immigrant heavy country, about 40% of the population are first or second generation. |

I didn't think he was trying to dodge the process. This kind of maneuver is more like getting a foot in the door imo. If the country did allow him to stay, then he could go through the process of naturalization. I wouldn't have a problem with that. What do you think? |

If the country did allow him to stay, then he could go through the process of naturalization. I wouldn't have a problem with that. What do you think? The problem is that he came to Canada first illegally, and then decided when he got caught out on his disguise that he was going to use the excuse of applying for political asylum, which was clearly dodging the process of Canadian immigration, which ties up the courts that now can't deal with honest people that have actually applied for immigrant status the legal way. THAT I have a problem with. Imagine if it was a terrorist that did this. Now you might see the issue I take with it? When you claim to be something you're not on an airline, that's criminal. |

i don't know what the country will do with him. honestly, i'm more interested to see if he will be deported back, but since he ask for protection i do wonder if they will grant it. this is a sucky situation for him. |

I think what you are getting at Kulla is motive. I don't know what his motive was, but if it drove him to come up with a disguise like that, I have to wonder. Motives are very important in a situation like this. I don't advocate going around the immigration system, but sometimes it has to be done. Remember the Elian Gonzalez affair? Not the same situation, but a controversy nevertheless over asylum. I think in some circumstances and due to certain motives, it's acceptable. But this isn't an exception for everyone necessarily, only for certain situations. To me, it's up in the air whether or not he can stay. It depends on the Canadian courts and laws at this point. |

i think he took it off so he would get attention and actually be able to apply for the refugee protection. if he had the mask on until he landed people may not have noticed. |
