They're supposed to be two drops of steel from a steelworks in Northern England. And their names (Wenlock and Mandeville) are after places, one which held a forerunner to the Olympics games and the other which held the first ever Paralympic games. |

I just heard on the news over here in australia a couple of hours ago (my time), that some school students in england helped with the design of the characters. They didn't say which students gave the names, though. Cheers, dafin0

What a character. It gave me quite a laugh. It will be interesting to see how well the next Olympics will play out with London in charge.
