Sorry for the borderline nudity Shane... I tried to block it out with windows. A little bit beyond screenshots now though given that this is 6000 pixels wide 8-[

I broke my Linux installation for a while because apparently removing the proprietary NVIDIA driver when you have an NVIDIA card and an ATI card installed simultaneously is a bit confusing to the fallback Nouveau driver. So I have been using Windows lately (with CYGWIN and virtual machines galore to satisfy my *nix craving) because its multiple monitor support is a little bit depressingly beautiful. (For anyone interested, I eventually fixed Linux, but coming to the conclusion that it's impossible to have any incarnation of NVIDIA and ATI drivers installed simultaneously without breaking things, and even multiple identical NVIDIA gpus lack compositing support and separate the outputs into multiple X servers which results in a fairly unusable environment :( )

Interesting decision to flip the two left monitors. What made you do that instead of just use one for a tri-panel setup?

I also noticed the Christmas theme in each of those photos :P

In actual fact they're arranged like this at the moment (I just used the photo above because the lighting was a lot better):

While this might look significantly cooler, believe it or not, it is actually ridiculously difficult to concentrate on four monitors at the same time... :D Usually if I'm coding I'd prefer to have code up on two portrait monitors whereas since they are on opposite sides of the desk, one of them tends to go unused. This way does give me a better viewing angle for movies/TV shows from in bed though! One idea I have yet to try is Portrait-Landscape-Portrait-Landscape or vice versa, which I think might give me the greatest flexibility with the caveat that it would look really odd.

I'd also never have bought four monitors purely to use four of them at once, haha. Dell had a special on the two portrait ones -- they are IPS monitors (slightly higher quality) and I got them for about the same price as some normal TN panels. I was looking at them when I replaced my old monitors (one of them died) with the two Dell ones on the right, but I couldn't justify the price at the time. The special was also for the two of them as a package, so I didn't really have the choice of just getting one for a tri-monitor setup! When I saw these and bought them I planned on selling the other two but then I was like hmm... they probably won't lose a lot of value over the next few years... So I picked up a super cheap ATI (6450?) graphics card to hook them up. Windows handles the two really nicely and basically does all the processing on the more powerful GPU that the primary monitor is connected to, and pushes anything it's rendered onto the slave if it needs to be output.

Christmas is a wonderful time of the year ;)

The portraits are Dell U2312HM's and the landscapes are Dell ST2220L's. :)
