Some background first: My laptop has two hard drives, one a SSD with Windows 7 and a few other programs and a regular disk HDD with all my data and other programs.

About a month ago the SSD died, rendering the laptop un-usable, as it couldn't access windows. I should be getting the replacement SSD back in a couple days and am going to install Windows 7 back on to it.

My question is what will I have to do in order to get windows to recognize all those programs and such again, and essentially restore my laptop to how it was before.

Thanks in advance and let me know if I should clarify anything else.

I am pretty sure that you will have to re-install all of your programs to get them to work properly.

You'll have to reinstall all of your programs. It'd also be wise to map the various libraries to your HDD, or otherwise set up any symbolic links from your SSD to the HDD, depending how much data you have and what size SSD you have.

When you say libraries do you mean these or something else?:

Also should I (whether it be by choice or because I have to):

-Back up all my data, wipe the secondary HDD, then move it all back.

OR

-Just uninstall all the programs and re-install then, leaving all my data.

I am pretty sure the uninstallers won't work so you will have to manually delete all of the program files and then re-install the programs after you have deleted them.

If I were you, I'd do a fresh install of Windows then re-map / associate the files from your HDD. Ideally, you'll delete all programs and only leave pertinent data behind. Data such as Pictures, movies, etc.
