Post subject:  Weird browser problem with Runescape

I'm finally coming back to Runescape after a 2 year hiatus and am having a weird problem. For some reason I am only able to play on Internet Explorer. Firefox and Chrome are not starting java up thus not allowing me to load the game. It's weird because in the security settings for Firefox and Chrome I have Java enabled. Nothing should be stopping or blocking it. I am on windows 7 64 bit Ultimate btw if that helps. Any help on this issue would be awesome because I would really prefer not to use IE.

Do you have Java x64 installed? That'd explain why it's working on IE if you're in 64 bit IE... Install the x86 version of Java alongside of the x64 version, and you should be OK.

I thought I did? Do you know where on the java site the x64 download is? On the page http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp is it the offline one for windows? I've installed that one and no luck.

http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/java_win64bit.xml shows information for getting each, though I think you've got to be there on a x64 browser to get the plugin for that browser.. Just be sure you've got both 32 and 64 bit plugins installed and you should be set cross browser and in general system wide.

It's strange because if im not mistaken chrome and firefox are only 32 bit programs (although they work on 64 bit) so they should be working because the IE that works is 32 bit IE. I installed both, the 32 bit java is installed in the 86x program files directory and the 64 bit is in the normal program files. I'm so confused because it's still not working D:

Hmm, that is strange. You are correct with the x86 vs x64, Chrome / Firefox are only x86 AFAIK though you can get x64 nightly builds of Firefox. IE ships with x86 and x64, and I'd assume you'd need x86 and x64 plugins depending on which you'd choose.

Are you sure you have the Java plugin enabled on Firefox/Chrome (Not Javascript, these are totally separate)? Try checking your Java versions at http://www.java.com/en/download/installed.jsp in each browser to see if they're registering the plugin on other sites excluding RuneScape.
