Post subject: | Ventrillo Server |
I'm trying to make a Ventrillo Server using the free vent server program from Ventrillo.com. So far all gone well, made channels and such. Alas people can not connect to my server. From what I've been told, Vent is telling people the server is available and yet when logging in it says connecting and stays that way. I've opened ports through my router and no fix still. My vent info is: 66.191.26.65 Default port Any other info you guys need I can give. Thanksss ![]() |

I don't know a whole lot about ventrillo, but I use it often. Is there any other ip or address you can give instead of that one? Or is that your only address? I see what the other people are seeing. The server is there, but I cannot connect. Maybe try starting another vent and see if people can connect to that one. That's all I would suggest. |

Theres my local IP, but that wont help YOU connect. Other than that, not sure what else. |

You need to forward the ports on the router to your desktop/laptop. I'd also make whichever computer is going to host the server a static IP on the network, that way it won't matter if the network goes down for a bit, you'll be on the same local IP when it returns. http://portforward.com/ for help forwarding ports, let us know if you need more help past that. |

The ports can be open, but are they forwarded to the right internal IP? Just opening the ports isn't enough, they have to be forwarded to your computer with the server. In addition, the computer itself should have those ports open through whatever firewall you've got going. |

I haven't tried setting up a static IP from the computer, always via MAC or something with the router.. You're sure that you're getting assigned 192.168.0.11 by the router every time? No other conflicts on the network? |

You can't set up a static IP for your router; only your ISP could do something like that. They make you pay extra for that feature. When I was talking about a static IP, I was talking strictly local. You may have done it already locally, I just wasn't sure if the router always knew that your computer was at 192.168.100.whatever. I'd just make sure to assign it via the router, that way there would never be any discrepancies. If you want a static IP, you could set it up via DynDNS or another similar service. You would need to have the ability on your router, though I'd go to a build of DDWRT anyway for the extra features. Setting up the service through DynDNS would allow you to have a static IP in a sense. It updates itself with the DynDNS server every so often, so you can always connect to something like SevVent.dyndns.org or something with the appended port respectively. I do the same thing for my VNC, FTP and gaming servers that I run on my desktop, and it works great. Usually the steps for a server are -Set up the server. Determine the ports on which it needs to run. -Open the ports on your computer so it can go through your firewall. -Set your router to either forward ports (useful for common services such as FTP) to your computer, and if it hasn't been done already, set your computer as a static IP on the local network. If it hasn't been done at this point for other reasons, set up your router to have a static IP to the outside world. After this, all you should need to do is connect to something like TalkWithSev.dyndns.org:43432 (or something to that effect) with Ventrillo. |
