Then, onscreen it says the fan failed. I have opened it and check to see that the fan is fine... but it spins at an insane speed. It is an old Compaq desktop, with windows XP. It has 1gb ram. |

Weird. Does it make it to the OS screens, or just fails while still in the boot up process? |

Yeah. It shows COMPAQ on the screen. Then it usually just shuts off. If I press F8 to boot into safe mode, I can get to the options, but then it shuts off there. |

This sound like a hardware problem. If you're sure there's nothing wrong with the fan, it maybe the BIOS- consider updating it. However, if the PC is very old, it may just be passed it and irreparable. |
