You mean the stupid Window XP Service Pack 2? I hate that thing... I don't think there is any way unless you reboot your computer and don't update the service pack.

Yes, you can turn it off but I wouldn't recomend it. Go to Start>Control Panel>Windows Firewall (If you use classic control panel)
Else:
Just click security center. Then just click off on the firewall section.

I don't recomend doing this, it's like committing suicide. If you do be sure to get zonealarm or something equivilent. http://www.zonelabs.com

But I wouldn't recomend that.

Your choice.

Hmmm.. If you do that, doesn't it bother you at the task bar?

Everyone knows with just the Windows firewall it's still open. PC magazine reccomends you only use the Windows Firewall to get Zone Alarm or some other firewall I'll quote!

PC Magazine Issue Date June 28 2005 from the article Top Tips and tricks for windows Plus Great Ideas for Internet Explorer and Firefox wrote:

One of the first things you want to do with a new system is download updates to the operating system and applications, activate any security software that came with your system, and install any security software that didn't

Hold on. To do most of this, You'll have to get online-sans adequite security. Windows XP does come with a personal firewall, although it does only half the job. Still, before you even plug in the cable that will connect your PC to the internet, go to the control panel, double click on Windows Firewall, and switch it on. Later, when you got a full personal firewall installed and updated -- along with the rest of the security canon -- you'll want to disable the windows one and simply use the security center to confirm that your security apps are functional and up to date.

Interesting eh?

for windows xp to turn off firewall:

go start > control panel > network and internet connections > windows firewall

but like shane said turning off ur firewall without any other protection is like drenching yourself in gasoline and lighting a fire lol
